Cant open my hard drive in my laptop

Locate the power cable and USB cable that came with your hard drive.

Connect cables to the appropriate locations on the back of the hard drive.

Sometimes a USB cable doubles as the power source, so you might not need a wall outlet to power the device.

Turn on your computer and allow your operating system time to load before continuing.

Plug the hard drive into the power outlet if necessary, but wait on powering up the device.

Connect the USB cable to the computer while the hard drive is in the "Off" position.

If the USB cable doubles as the power source, the device might turn itself on once connected.

Turn on the hard drive and wait until the hardware has been detected by the operating system. A message should pop up that lets you know new hardware has been detected.

Click on the "Start" menu and go to "My Computer."

Notice all your disk drives are listed in this window. The external hard drive should be visible, and holding the mouse cursor over the location will help you locate the correct drive.

Right click on the location of the drive, and move the cursor to "Open" or "Explore" and click.

Hope this helps

Seagate 500GB FreeAgent GoFlex Hard Drive it didn't appear on my computer

RESOLVED!

Just because this starts with the same steps as other solutions does not mean it ends with the same fix.

1. Click Start

2. Right Click Computer: Select Manage.

3. The Computer Management Dialog box will appear.

4. Select the Disk Management Icon located in the right pane of the Computer Management Dialog box.

NOTE: Under volume you will NOT see the Seagate Drive.

5. underneath the volume pane you will see Disk 0, Disk1 and so forth. look for the Seagate drive ... mine was Disk 2.

6. Right Click on the Drive: Select Properties.

7. The "Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex USB Device Properties" will apear. Select the Driver tab.

8. Select the Uninstall Button.

9. Unplug your Seagate external hard drive and plug it back in. This should re-install the Drivers and it should work like it use to.

P.S. Sorry for the bad grammar\spelling.

IT IS IN THE EXTURNAL HARD DRIVE MY LAPTOP WONT READ IT ANY MORE I HAVE 86 GB OF MUSICK I CANT GET TO ALL MY PICTURES ALL MY COMPUTER BACK OP FILES AND ALL MY PORN SOME TIMES I CON GET IT TO READ IT IF I...

The first thing to check would be the USB cable you're using - try a different one. If that makes a secure connection, you're set. If not, the problem is likely with the USB-IDE board that your external drive is using. You can open it up and re-seat the connection yourself, or remove the drive inside and connect it to your PC with a USB-IDE adapter (available on eBay, Amazon, etc.)

You can also contact MicroNet Technologies about warranty service, if your hard drive is within warranty period. They should be able to repair it for you without wiping your data. Here's their contact information:

New Seagate FreeAgentPro USB eSATA 500GB power on light not glows

Thank you for your reply.

I have solved the problem with local help.

Printed installation manual of Seagate 500 GB eSATA external hard drive has not properly mentioned how to use power on/off switch once connected to mains. I could get local help, who has already used the device. On/Off switch to be pressed for few seconds after mains connected, sometimes it comes automatically once power is on and USB cable pluged to the USB port of PC if power supply is ok. There is no indicator for the power supply (before device glows) after connected to the mains. I was in confusion whether power supply is ok or not.

Finally, It was found that the problem was with mains power supply and I have changed the power socket and adapter.
