How to unlock password for a HP 2140 Mini-Note

If you are talking about the login to Windows password then here is one way to do it:
Create a bootable USB stick using this tool: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/

Use the image from Ophcrack to load onto the USB: http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/download.php Choose the XP LIVE CD Option
1. Download the YUMI exe to your desktop 2.. Save the LIVE CD of Ophcrack to your desktop. 3. Plug in the usb stick you want to use (make sure it is at least 500MB. 1GB if possible) 4. Run the YUMI EXE and follow the instructions. Make sure to choose the USB Drive Letter ("D:" E:" etc) 5. Choose the Ophcrack ISO for the image. 6. Install to USB 7. Click Finished and exit the program and close any other open programs. 8. Restart the computer. Leave USB plugged in. 9. As soon as the computer restarts, tap the F10 button to enter the BIOS Menu. 10. Scroll to the Boot / Advanced Menu and change the boot order to USB first, HDD second. 11. Save and exit BIOS. Computer will restart. 12. Once booted up the computer will bypass the HDD and boot into the USB 13. elect Ophcrack from the list and hit Enter. 14. Follow the on-screen instructions to have Ophcrack force the password.

(If you're using Linux then use the Linux LIVE CD Image instead of XP)

I have compaq presario cq40144tu.my laptop doesnot support xp why. please me

If you are going to use XP you will have to set the boot order to boot CD or DVD ROM as the first boot in the BIOS. Then you will have to go in and format the drive and erase all the other storage information on all partisans, you will have to choose a partisan with the most available delete the rest of the stuff. This is the factory junk and files for the restore disk that came with your computer.
XP will be installed to a brand new partisan without any other partisans installed. Do not delete anything but partisans only and do not delete the largest one. Insert the XP disc it should boot first and select boot from disc it will do its thing and select the drive that should be the only one available which is the largest.
Now you will have to possibly do the drivers as well. So be prepared to do some online searching for the drivers. Frankly it is a lot of work and if you are going to do an upgrade go for the Win7 I'm assuming you have Vista installed. XP is the best in my opinion is stable and works without all the flash and junk. I hope this gave you some kind of idea. Also if you have a driver disc you can use that once you get XP up and running. John

WHY I CANNOT SETUP WINDODS XP.

If you have a newer operating system like vista or 7, you can't do an upgrade but you can do a fresh installation.
Enter set up (usually F12 or F2 on Compaq). Change the boot order ( following the key on the bottom and right side of the page).
Make the cd or dvd the first boot device. Insert your XP installation disk and reboot the machine. You will be prompted to press any key to boot from cd...do so.
Start up should begin. If there is an operating system on it you will be given the opportunity to delete already formatted partitions...do so. you will be left with an unformatted drive (or one partition, st up windows in that partition.
If you are using an upgrade disk and have a newer OS you will have to wipe the drive first.
If you need to wipe your drive first you can do it with this free program.

Good luck

Hi I have a compaq presario C700 laptop which is currently running on Window Vista i want to change to Window XP instead of Vista can you please give me the requirements and the steps to do this please

You'll have to buy a copy of XP--probably from eBay or Craigslist. You may be able to use an upgrade version, but you'll need an install disk for 2000, or 98 to validate.

Boot from the install disk and remove the partitions from the hard disk. Then install using the defaults.

You might want to download the drivers from HP.com prior and store them on a cd or flash drive before doing the change over. If you have files that you want to transfer, copy those to the cd/flash drive as well.

I want to install windows xp sp2 instead of windows vista. there is inbuilt windows vista for my laptop hp compaq 6720s.plz healp me how can i install windows xp.

It's a relatively simply procedure, 1st download all of the necessary drivers for your laptop from Compaq's website under the support section. You'll want the drivers for Window's XP. Either burn these drivers to a CD or place them on a flash drive. Also if you already have documents or data on the laptop that you would like to keep you'll need to back that up as well to either a CD/DVD or a flash drive.

Next you'll need a Windows XP installer disk. Place the disk in your laptop and reboot. The system should prompt you, asking you if you'd like to boot off of the CD press any key. Hit any key and the computer should boot from the XP CD. The system will take a while as it loads up the installer shell. If the system does not boot from the CD you will need to go into the BIOS or CMOS and change the boot order for the computer to make the CDROM or DVD ROM the 1st boot device. The 1st prompt on the installer should be a license agreement, hit F8 to continue. The next steps will pretty much be up to you. Things like where you want to install windows XP, do you want to format the drive, etc. This sounds like your 1st install so you may want to leave everything as default. Windows should detect your Vista install and by default install it as a seperate installation allowing you to boot into either OS.

After the OS has prepared the hard disk and copied all files the computer will reboot and will boot into a installer kernel and will prompt you for even more selections. This process will take longer than the initial portion and most of these settings you can leave at default as well. When this part is complete the system will reboot again and your installation of XP should be complete.

When the system boots into windows it will ask you to create a user name, create a user name or multiple ones. Put in your driver CD or flash drive and proceed to restore your files and install your drivers. That's the revised version of it anyway.

Good Luck!
