SOURCE: Chainsaw pull cord wont tension up

Its almost certainly made by Poulan.
This may help you find an IPL at Sears, they are available:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/modelHelp.pd?modelNumberId=29
This lists all Poulans. It will be difficult to find your saw but it is here:
Poulan.com
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/POULAN-WEED-EATER/75.59.html
It sounds as though the starter spring is broken.
This thread explains how to reinstall the spring.
http://www.fixya.com/support/t1839024-broken_recoil_spring
The IPL for your saw shows all the parts and provides an idea of how they fit together. GL

if it runs ok after you get it started it could be the starter pulley. the blue max saws have that problem

I purchased a 14" &20" chainsaw Model 8901/8902 and I am having difficulty pulling cord. It seems to lock. What could be the problem?

That is a good and bad sign. When a motor wears out and looses compression it gets very easy to pull. New motors should pull hard and be choppy or seem to "lock" however - you *MUST* carefully review your fuel mixture to ensure you are adding enough oil to the mix - if you used straight gas without adding oil you will burn the motor up and experience difficult pulling. Simple test - remove the spark plug - give it a good pull it should be liquid smooth with no binding anywhere on the pull. Report your results.

I have a 3hp briggs & stratton//the pull rope pulls freely//it does not engage the engine and turn the engine over

You probably need to replace the starter recoil. This is not a very expensive fix. Just be aware that this problem is usually caused by having to pull the starter rope excessively because of some other starting problem. Once you replace the recoil, keep your engine running properly.

Mini quadard 49cc model atv-2 pull start problem

a lot of guys are having issues with these machines. Most I believe are due to the carb settings. Turn the set screw all the way in and back it out 1 1/4 turns. Try that. if you need more you do it in 1/4 turn increments
