Check to see if you have 12 to 14 volts at the battery with the motor running. If not, you probably have a bad Voltage Regulator.

My 40 hp mer user.40elptefi dies if not connected to battery

It's electronic fuel injection so it needs power to run. Mercury is usually a yellow wire from stator that goes to a voltage regulator that charges battery when running. Good luck!!

Battery losing charge

Sounds like you have defective diode rectifier. this little box when working properly allows your voltage to only go 1 way to charge the battery. if you have used a vehicle to boost the tractor you have damaged the rectifier. because a vehicle running puts out 14.8 volts lawn equipment is 12 volts only you can boost using a vehicle only if it is NOT running

Hi, asuming the battery is in good condition and has no dead cells, sounds like you have a charging problem, this could be simply a loose conection caused by corrosion, check the plug at the regulator rectifier, gently pull on the wires at the plug on both ends, look for corrosion, separate the plug and check inside it for corrosion, clean if ness, running a motorcycle with a discharged battery can cause damage to the machines electrical systems, including frying the ecu and stator, under normal conditions a. Battery can last up to 3years, (some may last longer) if in any doubt replace the battery

Do you charge the gator's battery at the end of the day every day it is used or only when the battery goes completely down?

its a good idea to charge each time its used, but thats not realistic for most so definitely dont leave it for long periods totally dead or outside in freezing temps and it will last easily 3-4 summers!

Charge and load test the battery. If the battery sat dead for as little as two weeks , it could be sulfated and no good. If it is a Yuasa battery it only has a 6 month warranty , grab your receipt and race back to the dealer. They will charge and load test it three times . If it does not pass the load test you will get a new battery if it is still under warranty. Grab your voltmeter and unplug the plug with three yellow wires that is coming out of your stator. The three yellow wires coming from the stator should have continuity with each other and no continuity between any of the yellow wires and ground. That is the test for the stator. If the stator is good , the battery is good , then you probably have a bad regulator/rectifier. I suspect you just have a bad battery.

You can damage electrical components if you do not run the correct voltage battery. If your battery is below 12 volts replace it. If you take off the seat you can easily test the stator with a volt meter. Find the stator plug with three yellow wires. You should have continuity between any combination of the yellow wires. You should have no continuity between any of the yellow wires and ground. That is the test of a good stator. If your bike is still losing charge after those checks , you are probably looking at a new regulator/rectifier.

Starter battery will not charge

Hi
If the starter battery is not taking a charge, then it may have failed and require replacement. It is not uncommon for a battery that sits on standby for long periods of time to eventual fail. Best approach is to contact Kohler direct or one of their service agencies to get the correct replacement battery for the generator system.

The battery goes dead after a couple days riding and my headlight burns dim all the time

Check for loose or dirty wire connections at the parts under the seat and coming from the stator. Check fuse connections. Any wires disconnected? Any component, tail light, headlight, left "turned on"?

Put a voltmeter on the battery terminals and rev the bike to2000 rpm. The reading should be about 14 volts. If not, better have a dealer check out the stator, rectifier, voltage regulator and ignition switch.

Can I get a “very helpful” rating on this answer?
