My ps2 wont play games
firstly, have the appropriate tools. tools include:: standard philips, jewelers philips(tiny screwdriver), a ziploc baggie, a q-tip, and hydrogen peroxide. open the ps2. there are 4 or six screws depending on the model. the screws are on the bottom. the screws have covers so take them off. Once the screws have been removed, remove the top cover. Again depending on the model, thier might be a strip connected to the top cover going to the reset and open buttons(so be CAREFULL). If u have a older model then this part will be more difficult. on the right side of the ps2, thier should be four screws holding the top of the cd reader down. remove the four screws and pull the top off. now inside the cd reader, thier should be two axle like metal poles going horizontal. This controls the laser so it can move back and forth. dust usually collects on these. clean these off, but make sure thier is still some grease on them. if u mess this up u can go buy ps2 grease. now finally to the fixing of the eye(laser). get a q-tip, dip it in a bottle of hydrogen peroxide. use the wet side and gently rub the eye(laser). then take the dry side of the q-tip, and dry the eye(laser). if u want to test the ps2, but u dont want to put it all back together, u can just set the cover back on. or (i wouldnt suggest this) u can take the white magnet out of the top cover and place it on the center reciever. it worked for me so i hope it works for u.
