How can i remove a switch cover to a dyson dc04

Hi, it's Cindy from Crucial Vacuum.

It is possible to replace the DC04 switch. Unplug your vacuum and remove the cyclonic assembly on your vacuum. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the switch cover. You may need to shimmy the switch cover off then the old switch is easily removed from its connectors and the new switch can be connected. Screw the cover back on and place the cyclonic assembly on and your done!

You can purchase direct your replacement switch from Crucial Vacuum with free shipping and an exclusive 10% coupon for Fixya.com viewers, use code: FIXYA10

How do I seperate my dyson DC 24 for cleaning

Hi there,

To separate the clear bin from the cyclone pack, remove the bin from the machine and open the base as if you were emptying it. You can then separate the clear bin and cyclone pack using the silver catch on the rear of the cyclone pack.

You can wash the clear bin by rinsing it with cold water - always ensure it's totally dry before replacing it.

Dirt can be removed from the cyclone assembly using a soft brush or dusting cloth, but never attempt to wash this part or submerge it in water, as this could damage to the machine.

I hope this information is useful to you - if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Best wishes,

My Animal sounds like a jet engine, especially when I turn it off, it just winds down. I have washed the filter under the canister, is there another one that needs to be cleaned?

Hi, Barry. W/D here. I have just experienced this problem, and here's how to fix it.
  1. Remove the canister from the cyclone separator. One sign of clogging is debris on the filter located under the canister. If debris is present on the filter, clean it with soap and water, then dry thoroughly while you proceed to the next step.
  2. Looking up into the cyclones from the bottom, you will see the holes that correspond to each cyclone. I use a flexible grabber that is used to retrieve nuts and bolts. (It has a spring and thumb driven end that allows small jaws to open when the thumb end is pushed, and the jaws close when the pressure on the thumb drive is released). Pass the jaws end up into the hole(s), one at a time, opening the jaws as you clear the opening. Insert the grabber fully, and then release the jaws. Retract the grabber, and remove the debris captured by this method. Repeat as necessary. These grabbers are easily found at most hardware stores, and are inexpensive.
  3. Compressed air may aid in removing debris, or at least move it around to where it may be more easily grabbed.
  4. Lastly, you can disassemble the cyclone chambers to inspect and clean. The canister has three molded in lugs located internally behind the canister gasket. You will have to remove the gasket and carefully separate the halves. Use a sharpie and make match lines on your pieces as you separate them from here on in, to make reassembly easier. Once separated, you will have access to the screws that hold the cyclone assembly to it's base. You'll need a #20 torx bit to remove these. Once removed, remove any debris and clean all parts prior to reassembly.
  5. This should have you thoroughly cleaned. One other thing....dump the canister frequently; if you wait until you are at the full mark, you have probably gone too far.
  6. Hope that this was helpful. Best regards, W/D

Hi there,

As this procedure should only be carried out by a Dyson engineer, unfortunately we can't provide instructions on how to replace the casing of your DC07.

We need to replace the Fan Blades on our Phillips Fan as they heve got very fragile and they are breaking up!

Yes-- This is the big disadvantage of this type of Vacuum--
Stones and sand wear heavily on that impeller turning a very high rate of speed.

This can be a tricky job----- depending on how long this fan has been on the motor shaft-- and if water has been passed thru this joint--
-- It will take a complete disassembly of the power section of this vacuum--
(I have seen a few times, when the impeller could be just hit a solid blow in the 'un-tightening direction, and the impeller spun right off- -- Very god, if you can get that response! :-) )

Most of the time one has to tear the motor apart, and get a solid grip on the armature (Clamping it firmly-- but gently in a vise -- and then beating on the impeller to remove it.

Naturally-- you would need to have the correct impeller ready to spin right back on the shaft-- for the old impeller will be ruined in removal. Be sure to put some 'never-seize' on the thread, to make it easier to remove NEXT time!

How old is the machine?
Ever consider trading it in on a new type of Vacuum?

Let us know if we can help more-
