Question about Panasonic SC-HT730 System

1 Answer

Trouble getting theHT730 surround system to play

I ordered this product off ebay which is something i don't normally do. It arrived within the time frame give, but I hooked it up and the disc player will not even open. The subwoofer's infra red light is lit but the system does not work because the disc player is not. The only connection from the disc player to the subwoofer is put in corrrectly. Can it be that I am doing something wrong or should I just send the product back?

I went with Cerwin Vega for my speakers and they have been great. You can find them at Best Buy I believe or even order over Amazon.com (shipping is always high). Be careful buying over eBay unless they are like new or new--you don't know how they've been used or abused in that case. I have 4 smaller bookshelf speakers for the surround and back surround, an LW12 subwoofer, and some 10" Cerwin Vega L9 units for the front. I also bought a nice CV center channel speaker--went a big bigger and better on that unit as it plays the voices on 5.1 and 7.1 surround.

Can't get surround sound when watching normal tv,

Have you looked at the manual?

The specific product you're inquiring about is not showing in your post. Name the make

HDMI can be either an input or an output. You don't specify what the HDMI is carrying and to what or from what?

TV-related multichannel audio almost always originates with a digital program source which today os usually the Cable Box. THAT would be a good place to start with the attempt to get 'surround sound' after you've decided how to use the digital input on your unnamed HTS.

Surround sound only plays via cd/dvd will not play through normal tv audio. can u help me fix this

Only a digital source can provide true surround. If you're running the audio FROM the TV TO the receiver it is probably analog stereo only.

Why not get your TV-rekated audio from the same source you're watching - like the cable/sat box?

Dolby will only activate when it has information for all 5 channels. For normal stereo only left, right and bass boost speakers work, so you lose center and rear speakers. The system should have an option to play SIMULATED surround sound, to activate all speakers. In many systems, this option is called dolby prologic, simulated or some other fancy name.

I've bought a panasonic sound surround dvd player and want to link it to a sky+ box and tv so that sky will play in sound surround. Can you advise on the wiring configuration please?

look at the back of your tv does it have a audio out RCA jack?
it should do plug in the surround sound into that using RCA cables

if your tv does not have audio out RCA jack then you can

get a adapter which makes scart connectors turn into RCA jacks get that off ebay

plug the yellow line to the tv and connect the red and white to suround sound
but with this there are a few problems sound will only come out when surround sound is turned on and skys sound will never play out the tv
if you switch to a PS3 or something it will not play suround sound

yuo best option is the RCA plugs in the back of the tv

because you have not written the model number of the tv or the suround sound i cant help any further

sounds like you need to surround modes. There is usually a Stereo, Dolby, DTS, "virtual surround", 4-speaker mode etc..
When you play a CD or connect to TV it likely defaults to playing stereo or virtual surround.

With real surround, almost all of the voices are coming from the center-channel speaker (normally placed closest to the TV).

Also, check to make sure the center channel is connected properly.

Surround sound for my home theater.

you cannot output sound from your xbox to another dvd system , you can however send the sound to your tv and output the signal to a stereo or home theater system if your looking to have surround sound or looking for stereo sound , the tv should be set to video1-2-3 and thats where youll be able to have sound and picture , , thanks sincerely glenn
