Hi,
You can reset the router by pressing the reset button (a small hole) with a pin / needle for 30 secs.
After then, the password would be set to the factory settings, which should be the default password as it came with the router and installation CD.
Follow the initial setup procedures that you followed when you got that router.

Normal disconnecting/ switching off does not reset the settings.
Reset as I mentioned above using a sharp object.
After then,
Connect to the router by typing on any browser
The default user name is admin
and the default password is 1234
Once logged in, you can change all the security settings.

Enter
"admin" as the username and "password" as the password
(neither has quotes, both are lowercase).
I hope you are connected to this particular router when you do it.

Try updating the firmware of the router from its website and try the reset procedure.

You probably have little reason to access your router on a regular basis so don't feel too bad
f you've forgotten the WNR1000 default password.
However, when you're troubleshooting a network problem and need to get in to the device,
the WNR1000 default password suddenly becomes very important.
For most versions of the NETGEAR WNR1000, the default password is password. As with most passwords,
the WNR1000 default password is case sensitive
Be sure to change the default router password on your WNR1000 to something more secure as soon as you're in.
Then use a free password manager so you'll never forget your new WNR1000 password

In order to find the wireless security password of your Netgear wireless router , please follow these setps
1. Open up the internet explorer in the comp in which you are online and clear the address bar and type in the number 192.168.1.1 and hit enter.
2. You will be logged into the Netgear router setup page .
3. Under the wireless settings you will find the security password for your wireless router.

I have to reset my router ever so often, because I don't know how to over pass the default password. Unfortunately, I don't have the CD. It has been years since I installed it. Is there any other way to reset the password without the CD?

I know how to reset the settings, I just forgot the user name and the password. I tried using the ones you sent, but I receive this message:
"The name or password entered for area “MR814v2” on 192.168.0.1 was incorrect. Please try again."
And then,
"Your password will be sent in the clear." that I don't even know what it means.

We're getting there! I hope. I was able to log in to this Netgear Settings page, but if I want to get to any of the menu options(set password or Dynamic DNS), it asks for my password again. I tried "password" and "1234", but neither one works.
