You can try to take these people to court but they will win. Here is why, your TV is 25 Months old, or should we say over 2 years old, which is far past the standard warranty given on modern electronics. Therefore, this means that they are within their rights. Now, for finding the cause of your problem and providing a solution to it:

This is a common problem; either the inverter or the back light has malfunctioned. The inverter takes AC turns it into high voltage DC and then uses that to power a fluorescent light element (backlight).

You will need:
A service manual (to find the voltage levels and signal levels to compare with the measured values)
A multimeter (to measure the voltage levels at the prescribed test points)

Now, after finding the inverter board, use the service manual to guide you in testing the prescribed test points and determining if the problem is the inverter or the backlight. If the problem is the inverter, use the service manual instructions on how to remove the board properly.

If the backlight is bad, use the service manual to guide you as to how to remove the screen in-order to get to the backlight.
