Charging IBM R40 Battery

I have a R40 laptop the battery lasts a long time when charged my issue is if i discharge the battery and then connect the power supply the power indicator changes to AC and the battery indicator light stays orange. The on screen display shows 0% charged and will not show a charge even after 24 hours but the battery is charged because i can use laptop on battery for 3-4 hours again. But if i only party use the battery for say an hour then plug it in display shows like 60% charged and then if i leave it plugged in it will charge to 100% and i am good for about 5 hours. Any thoughts? i down loaded the latest battery driver from ibm no difference.

I have HP Pavilion Dv4 1030ee laptop From Last 1 week i have seen that 'plug in but not charging'.my laptop battery is not charging bt working fine on connecting to ac

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

Battery will not charge.plugged in not charging

Does the computer start anyway, but it's just that the battery won't charge? If that's the case, it's probably a bad battery.

A procedure to do before assuming a bad battery is to (1) remove the battery, (2) disconnect the power supply from the computer, and (3) press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. This resets the logic circuits in the internal power handling section. If that doesn't help either, then the battery is probably bad.

If the computer isn't starting, however, it could be that the power supply has failed. Check the voltage output on the power supply.

Hope that's helpful.

My IBM Thinkpad T22's battery doesnt last. can i fix that?

Basically you need a new battery. Recharageable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and they lose their full charge capacity as the get older. The batteries will have less capacity over time ie less available battery time, and when it is worn out, it won't charge at all.

My battery is not recognised and doesn't charge

Check the battery status manually

To accurately measure the condition of the battery, the PC cannot be used during this test. This method will Test the battery by completely charging the battery then will determine how long it takes to discharge the battery. This test is done while the PC is operating in the Safe Mode and not being used for any other action. This test will require 1-3 hours depending on condition of the notebook PC. The PC cannot be used while you perform the following steps. Completing all the following steps will also calibrate the battery so that the power meter reading are accurate.
  1. Connect the AC adapter and allow the notebook to charge until the battery is charged to 99% - 100% of capacity.
    • To determine the percentage of battery power, with the notebook operating normally, right-click on the c00586951.jpgpower icon in the system tray, and select Open power meter . The Power Status is displayed.
  2. Shut down the notebook PC when the battery has charged to capacity.
  3. With the notebook turned off, connect the notebook PC to the AC power adapter that is plugged into a working wall outlet.
  4. Press and release the Power Button to start the computer.
  5. Press the F8 key several times when the HP Logo displays.
  6. When the Windows Advanced Startup Menu displays, select the Startup in Safe Mode option.
  7. Notice and record the current time as the Test Start Time with a fully charged battery.
  8. Remove the AC power adapter cable from the notebook PC.
  9. Allow the battery to discharge completely until the notebook PC turns off.
  10. Notice and record the Completely Discharged Time.
  11. Subtract the Discharged Time from the Start Time to calculate the Elapsed time.
  12. Record the time for future comparison or to provide to an HP support specialist if you suspect the battery is defective. NOTE: As with all batteries, the maximum capacity of this battery will decrease with time or use. Loss of battery capacity will vary depending on the product configuration and usage, including but not limited to: product model, applications running, power management settings, and product features. The battery warranty does not cover natural deterioration of battery capacity. Your battery is only warranted from defects in materials or workmanship resulting in failure. To determine if your battery has had a warranted failure you may be required to run an HP diagnostic.
After performing these steps.

--- Remove the batter and power cord
---After 5-10 mintues insert the batteryu and comment the AC Adapter and then Press the power button on the notebook for about 5 minutes .
If there is any power issue the issue may fix.

Charging inconsistant

Sounds like it could be the power pin/socket. Poorly designed at best. The day in and day out pulling and tugging takes it's toll on the poor little connector. I use a cable retention device liek the one in this video to keep my plug intact.

R40 2724-BU1 Power Problem

Check the ac adapter. It seems your adapter is not charging it. Either the ac adapter or your dc port may be the problem. Is this the correct adapter, is it giving the correct voltage. These should be considered also.

Hope this helps you
