There is a switch on bottom you slide and then you slide the top off towards the back. Once you get the top off you will find the battery housing. Get some rechargeables.

My wireless mouse has quit working. I'm guessing I need a new battery. However, I can't figure out how to even find the battery, let alone change it! How do I do that????

Cutting down on the number of wires that must be tolerated in a work station adds to maneuverability and ease of location. For all their convenience, though, wireless accessories bring with them a number of issues not present in their wired counterparts, most significantly battery change.
Instructions

    • 1 Turn off the mouse.
    • 2 Remove the top of the top of the battery compartment. The button that releases it is located toward the rear of the mouse.
    • 3 Remove the old battery and place the new one in its place. Replace the cover and turn the mouse back on.

Change battery. Uninstall the mouse software from the device manager. reboot and see if that doesn't help. If you have a setting problem, try finding HP mouse in the control panel and see if you can change the jumpy situation.

once the tool is open go to Communication.. and run a test on mouse.. if ur unable to use it there.. then if ur system is under warranty.. call HP and get the mouse replaced..

My hp m971au wireless mouse won't connect with the plug in usb. The mouse itself is perfectly fine, but the light on the USB won't come on.

I just figured this out. I was having the same problem. The light on the plug-in USB wouldn't stay on. Then I realized that the light on the USB is also a button. You have to press this button as well as the 'connect' button on the bottom of the mouse at the same time. Wait until they sync up and then let go.

Hope this helps. It worked for me!

Hp wireless mouse model #m971au pointer stopped working

Make sure your batteries are good and then, Normal 0 Turn the mouse over and find the small rest/connect button on the bottom of the mouse and press it. This should connect the mouse to the receiver and work properly. If not, try pressing the receiver button and then press the button on the mouse. This should be done whenever you change batteries or glitch. Hope this helps you. Bud
