Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a roper refrig and the model number is RT18BKXJW00. My fridge part is ok but my freezer will not freeze stuff. I do not see a knob that will turn it up or down. just one in the lower half for just the fridge part.

Only the fridge has a control knob. You should check in the freezer compartment, if the back wall is frozen you will have reduced airflow through the cabinet and later even to the fridge. I would have the defrost system checked out.

Refrigator with a top freezer freezes up about every 4 weeks

Check the door and seals, does it close and seal properly.

If the seals are letting in warm air, the fridge goes into overtime, hence freezing up.

Its also worth checking that the fridge isn't on too higher setting.

Freezer is over freezing/ice-ing up behind the board {where all the wires/fans/stuff is} thus not keeping fridge or freezer as cold as it should be.

You fridge has a broken defrost controller or a broken heating element.

Go to Roper online to find your parts and then see if you can buy them either at applianceparts.com or ebay. These are good cheap ways to get your stuff sent directly to you!

Then, unplug the fridge, thaw it out. And while its unpowered and thawing replace the two parts. Refer to your units parts diagram for parts locations. The controller should just be hiding down underneath or in back and the defroster heating element is usually under the freezer.

Good luck and be careful!

Older model fridge freezes on the refrig. side

check the damper door and see if its iced up this is between the refrige and freezer compartments and lets cold into refrige from freezer,if it ices up in the open condition the refrige control cant change the temp, defrost the door and then see if the control moves the door,if so also check the door seals to make sure they are sealing good so as not to let warm air in that can condense and freeze things like the damper door

Water wont dispense but still makes ice. Also fridge side gets extremely cold no matter the settings and freezes stuff in the bottum drawers

Since your freezer control is the main thermostat , and your refrig control is only a damper , lower your freezer setting and turn the refrig control mid way . This will make the refrig run less , and keep the air flow moving , throughout the complete unit . When the airflow stops , by turning down the refrig control ( closing the damper ) , all the cold air will settle in the refrig section , thereby freezing everything in the lower section .
Since the water line runs thru the freezer door , too cold in the freezer section , will cause the water in the line to freeze . I would also suggest installing a dispensor heater ( pt. # WR49X10173 ) , which would hopefully avoid water line freeze , in the future . This part comes with installation instructions .

Freezer freezes but refrigator not cold

your fan between the freezer and fridge is out. This fan allows the cooling from the freezer to cool your fridge section. This fan is located between the freezer and the fridge in the area of the temp control knob in the fridge. This area should be able to be accessed by pulling the screws that holds the assembly to the top inner part of the fridge. Once this part is removed you can see the fan. Take the model and serial number to the appliance parts store for correct replacement part. Understand that this is a 7 in difficulty on a scale of 1 to 10 to replace so if you feel like it you can repair it yourself however a tech could do it must faster at least you know what is wrong. Good Luck hope this helps on your repair

I am renting a house with a ge profile refrige model no PSS27SGPASS. My food keeps freezing in the refrige. I keep raising the temp but that does not help what can I do I do not have a manual is there a...

That model has a electric powered damper that opens or shuts to reduce or increase the flow of cold air from freezer. Sometimes they stick open and will not close. It's quite expensive to replace. And the temperature control board is also expensive. I believe it's time to talk to the Landlord and get them on the project. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Roper Freezer Stopped Freezing

. The most common problem is a bad start relay on the compressor. In rare cases the compressor may be bad. If you are mechanically inclined you can replace the relay yourself for less than 50 dollars. You will need model and serial number off of the unit and order the part by those numbers. if the compressor is bad you will need to hire a good service company
