First make sure the switch for the wifi is turned on in front of the computer, its by the headphone jack. If this is not the problem, make sure that your wifi is enabled, Go to Contorl Panel, go to network and internet connections, and then click on Network Connections(if your in classic view just go to Network Connections). Right click on your wifi adapter and make sure you it is enabled.

Take a look at this article from HP and see if it describes your situation. If so, then call HP at the number given in the article.

WIFI not working

This is a common problem on hp laptops in the 2000 and 6000 series. It is caused by a manufacturing defect on the mainboard. You may try and update your BIOS and see if it fixs it.. If it doesnt you will have to contact HP and they will give you a free repair if you still are under warranty (the warranty is 2 years here in Denmark)

BIOS update:

Wifi connectivity problem

It's possible that the driver for your wireless adapter is already installed. Check under Device Manager > Network Adapters if there is anything pertaining to your wireless adapter. Make sure that your wireless adapter (under Device manager > Network adapters) does not have any red X or yellow question mark.

Red X indicated that it's disabled , while yellow question mark will suggest that you need to update the driver. If your wireless adapter is working properly under Device Manager > Network adapters then you will need to configure it's utility for wireless connection.

If you are running windows XP, look for the wireless icon in the lower right side of your task bar and use it to connect to your preferred network.

Good luck and have a nice day!

WiFi device not working

try going to dell.com. Go to support/downloads and look for your product i.e inspiron 6400. Go to download drivers and choose operating system xp. then the rest is straight forward (look for your network adapter name)...pls note: i cant remember exactly where to go on the website but its under support. U should get u to the downloads page without any difficulty.
OR if u hav the Drivers and Utilities cd, use that to reinstall the device driver.
