Question about Dell Latitude D800 Notebook

1 Answer

My Dell Latitude D800 was working fine before I opened it to to what my RAM configuration was. Now when I press the On button the computer displays a blinking LED that looks like a padlock with the symbol "A" in it. What's up?

The padlock with the letter "A" is the caps lock led.

Ask the question again with more detail...you obviously not describing what you see, as the padlock with an "A" on a Dell laptop is the caps lock. Check out your manual on the Dell website for yourself.

Dell latitude d800 not switching on ?

I may have addressed this question earlier. If your Dell shows absolutely no sign of life... no LEDs, no nothing and you know for certain the battery and/or power adapter is good then...

If you have access to a docking station (ANY Dell dock that will mate with the bottom connector on your D800), put the D800 in the dock and use the power button on the docking station.

If the laptop powers up, you may have a simply problem with the laptop "Press to turn on" button.

ABOVE THE LAPTOP KEYBOARD...
Use a small flat screwdriver blade to remove the Center Control Cover (just beneath the display/cover hinge and above the F1-F12 keys). Locate the cover's flat ribbon cable connector above the Page Up key. Pull off and carefully reinstall. Try the power button now. If it works, put everything back together. Otherwise seek profession help.

I need to unlock a bois pass word for dell latitude D800

The best way to unloc a BIOS password is to reset by removing the CMOS battery and while the mains is removed press the power button a few times and leave for about 30 seconds. Refit the battery and power up. Password should be removed.

My dell latitude d800 dosnt start. no cursor no splash screen ..only lightning some buttons..

Hi,

If you see power lights but nothing appears on the screen, it could be a "POST" (Power-on Self Test) problem or simply LCD problem.

Here are some steps that you can try. One of these may work on your case.

1. Remove the battery and the ac adapter then press the power button for at least 20 seconds to drain electric charges left on the system. (You may need to repeat this step to get it work.)

2. If above step doesn't work, try to plug in an external monitor and see if you get display from the external monitor.

3. If you get display from the external monitor, I'm sure your having problem with the LCD components. In this case, check and replace faulty LCD backlight, LCD cable or LCD inverter. The LCD inverter is often a culprit.

4. Try to reinsert the memory module/s (RAM) of the unit, try using one RAM at a time to see if it works. A faulty RAM will cause the laptop not to POST.

5. If reinserting the RAM doesn't help, most likely your motherboard needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps.

To make a long story short: My Lattitude D800 has gone completely dead. Is there a way to restore the bios to the factory settings, or something like that? The longer version. Dell Lattitude D800,...

There was a BIOS download from Microsoft for the D800? Weird. Yes as you now know, only install BIOS versions released from the manufacturer themselves.
Well you can try removing the reserve battery, trying to power on to see if that resets it with the reserve battery out.
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd800/sm_en/reserve.htm#1123661
Is it allowing you to go into the existing BIOS at all? You could download the latest bios from Dell's site and try this. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R103840&SystemID=LAT_PNT_PNT_D800&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=3582&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=3&catid=1&impid=-1&formatcnt=0&libid=1&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=133892
You will need a bootable DOS disk to boot to, and flash it.
Flashing the BIOS Dell™ Latitude™ D800 Service Manual 1. Ensure that the AC adapter is plugged in and that the main battery is installed properly. 2. Insert the flash BIOS update program floppy disk or CD and turn on the computer. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen. The computer continues to boot and updates the new BIOS. When the update is complete, the computer will automatically reboot. 3. Press during POST to enter the system setup program. 4. Press and to reset the computer defaults. 5. Press , select Save changes and reboot, and press to save configuration changes. 6. Remove the flash BIOS update program floppy disk or CD from the drive and restart the computer.

Dell Latitude D800 Boot Problem

Did the diagnostics pass the RAM and the hard drive.
You should check the BIOS settings to see if the hard disk is detected, if possible reset the BIOS back to the default settings and see if the computer boots up.
If not :-
Then it appears that the operating system is either corrupted or system files were deleted or infected with viruses.
Your only option is to do a operating system repair or a complete new install of Windows.
I recommend you do a new install.
