Notebook CD / DVD drive not working; will not read CD/DVD. When I called Toshiba for a service they said it would most likely be a software issue... is there software I can download to solve this problem?

You should try reinstalling the driver for the drive. Go to toshiba.com and look up their drivers for your specific laptop, find the CD/DVD drive and download the latest drivers and install them. Then restart the computer and see if that solves the problem you are experiencing.
Please rate, thanks!

Hi

I would have to look at this over remote support.

But from what you have told us. Most likely either dirty lens or a software issue. if you insert a cd int othe drive and open my computer, then open the cd drive does it read the cd?

Also when you turn the computer on, if you have a bootable cd for example windows installation disc try inserting that and then try starting up from cd rom. (you may need to enter boot menu when you turn the computer on it should say at some part of the screen to press this button to get into boot menu then select cd rom)

If you are able to start up from a cd rom into windows setup for example then the drive is working and this is a software issue in windows.

let me know how that goes.

You can download the software from the internet.just check out whats the model number and company name of your cd/dvd drive and google it in internet.you will get the software to download .click the link and download that software and install it.if its due to software your cd/dvd drive will work.but in many cases the cd/dvd drive it self is faulty if that is is the case just check out your cd/dvd drive in any other system and confirm it .and also check out any other cd/dvd drive in your machine if it is working that means your cd/dvd drive was faulty.

If you're saying that the CD driver will not read any disc at all but still detected by your computer system, the problem here can be with the lens of the CD drive, you can try first to run a lens cleaner to clean the lens of your CD drive...

Try to update the drivers.

If that would not solve the issue, use a CD cleaner/ Soft cloth to clean the lense.

try to change the lense.

Unless give it back to company.

thanks.

If you honestly ask me, there is not much to troubleshoot. If you open notebook., you would find that the cd player is made up of nothing more than a lense, a plate connected in means with various bolts.

So, we can only troubleshoot lense, if without replacement we can make them usuable....If not replace lense.

    take care.

Toshiba Satellite A105 PC Notebook, DVD/CD Drive. The Drive is reading the DVD but not the CD. How do I change the settings for the drive to read both

You can't just change it from pio to udma. Go to Control Panel, System,Hardware,Device Manager, then expand IDE ATA/ATAPI, then right click on Primary IDE and select uninstall. Do the same for secondary IDE. Then just reboot your system, and it will autodetect all IDE devices. After that when you check, you should not have any devices in PIO, and your burner should work correctly. If not, stick it in a hyperbaric chamber for 2 days and see if that helps. smile.gif __________________

I can't use my CD/DVD-ROM.. i try to put a disc on it, it appears D: is not accessible and the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. Please help me. i dont know what to do. thanks

Check you system hardware and see if it see the CD/DVD device. check to see if you have the drives and software loaded for that device. Go to toshiba web site and check for latest drives and patches. Some of there CD/DVD drives had upgrade software to make the DVD work right make sure you have everything you need loaded. Then put a blank CD in and try writing to it using there software package. if you can write and read a CD you just brunt then the CD is working. Next try reading a DVD movie see if it plays.

My dvd drive in my computer won't play dvds

1. Completely remove any dvd/cd player/burner softwares (i.e. Nero, Power DVD, etc.).
2. Go to device manager and remove your DVD/CD device from the device list
3. Restart you laptop
4. Windows will then try to reinstall the device drivers again for the DVD drive.
5. After another restart, then reinstall your dvd softwares again.

DVD player on my computer

This will be a problem with either the DVD decoding software, or the DVD reader inside the DVD drive. It's common for a CD/DVD combo drive to have the DVD end go out. If you have access to an external DVD drive connect it and see if it plays DVD's. If it does, then it's the DVD drive, if it doesn't, then it's a software issue. If you don't have access to an external, you can try uninstalling and reloading the decoding software or try different decoding software. You should be able to find software at filehippo.com, don't worry about it being burning software, in order to burn it has to decode first.

Toshiba Satellite A75-S206 DVD\CD-RW drive problem

Hello GeneMat,

I am Romeet,i will try and help you with this problem.Seems it could be an issue with the Combo DVD Drive's Driver Software or Firmware.

Try This:

From your Desktop:

Right Click " My Computer" Icon and select "Properties"

Go to "Hardware" Tab and select "Device Manager"

Under Device Manager, scroll down to the "DVD/CDROM Drives" menu and click on the plus ( + ) Sign next to it

Right Click the Drive name eg " Toshiba DVD-R TSST 2313" and select " Uninstall" Click yes to any prompts and restart your Laptop.

After rebooting, Windows XP should pick up the drivers again, so wait a while for it to complete and until it notifies you that " Windows successfully completed installing your new hardware" or something to that effect and then try using the software cds again

Best of luck!

Regds
