I heard today on the news that some Maytag fridges may cause fires and are being recalled .I bought my freezer on the bottom fridge last year,i need to know if it is one of the recalled models !! Help! I am scared of a fire ! [email protected]

Did you by chance recieve a recall from the manufacturer .? we got one about two years ago we had the same problem, they fixed it because there was danger of fire, i would contact them

Since the compressor is not working, the refrigerator is not cooling, so even without a fire hazard, it would be smart to save the electricity!

From what I can ascertain, the fridges affected were manufactured between January 2000 and October 2006 (So, after shipping and sitting around in shops, you can probably extend that margin to machines SOLD between 2000 and 2008)

I have to say. Regardless of dates and matching serial numbers, if I had an affected model, I would be checking with BEKO anyway!!

Be very careful, when the ice maker malfunctions, many things can be the culprit. The start device on some models of refridgerator for maytag and whirlpool have been recalled. If your appliance was manufactured in the last 5-10 years you may be having an issue with this component. Mine recently caught on fire at this device that is located near the compressor. Yes you have a bad relay on your compressor.Remove the rear panel and take off the relay on the compressor shake it.If it sounds fried then you need to order new on .Just give your model# to your local parts depot and ask them to order you a new compressor relay hope i fixya:)

The defrost drain line in the freezer has frozen closed. Turn off the fridge. Remove the freezer bins. Use a hair dryer to thaw the drain hole on the bottom rear shelf of the freezer.

P.S. Your fridge is on recall from Maytag for a defective start relay.

We had a repairman come out, said it was the compressor, bad news...$650 if he repaired...good news...compressor under manufacturer's warranty for five years so you may want to call Maytag. It will be less expensive if the part is covered and you only have to pay for labor. Hope this helps. Bought our fridge 12/2004 so it was covered.
