Question about Routers

Router crashing Hi,I have a network of about 8 wireless computers.Twice the router crashed and needed to be replaced. The boy who came to replace last time said that it only allows 3 computers, more than might cause trouble. Is that true or is it bull? The router now is Gateway 2701HG-S wireless What do you think might be the problem? Thanks

No it's, not you can use four computer in one router, then you can use a switch to pass-through the other connection of the other computers. However if he replace a router that's not working properly, that's no good in your part.

As with any electronic device that plugs in to the wall, I suggest getting a surge protector. It's a small investment that really can save your equipment.

I have a DI-524, there is a reset hole on the back. Press a straightened paper clip in it.
"Pressing this button restores the router to its original factory default settings"

Then go to the D-Link web sit and find instructions for your router.
(sorry I won't walk you through that, it's easy enough)

Your router is probably configured not to broadcast your SSID (the name of your wlan)? You should be able to enable it by logging on to the router from the computer that is still connected.

The router now has 6-8 computers on it at a time, and it seems to be crashing. Is it because there are too many computers on the router?

Generally a Router can handle 254 System/Computer at a time.

Try Rebooting and then Re-configuring the Router if the issue persists after rebooting the Router.

Try buying a brand new one. It might be older than you computer or it is the ISP causing the router to crash.
