The click and hum your hearing is most likely the compressor trying to start. the most common problem is a bad start relay on the compressor. in rare cases the compressor may be bad. if you are mechanicly inclined youc an replace the relay yourself for less than 50 dollars. you will need model and serial number off of the unit and order the part by those numbers. if the compressor is bad you will need to hire a good service company. good luck Peyton

Hi!
That is probably the compressor relay
The relay is on the compressor and needs replaced
A relay starts the compressor with a higher voltage and then quickly kicks out
Thats what is happening with yours
Its best for a tech to replace The relay but you can do it
Take your model number to your Local Appliance parts store they will have a diagram
showing you how to install the relay. Its called a hard start relay

Switch on fridge and compressor runs for a few seconds and then stops, switch off for a few minutes and then switch on again and it runs for a few seconds. Checked thermostat and seems to be OK

Refrigerator stoped cooling

Ok, if the unit compressor will not run and just clicks on and then off, this will confirm a low charge state ad you will need to recharge this unit. the refrigerant level is low.

Purchasing a recharge kit and recharging the system will fix this issue.

Freezer not freezing on m,aytag mfd2560hes

hi andy, based on your story, i think the humming sound is coming from the compressor trying to start and the clicking sound is when the overload trips and make that clicking sound to turn off the compressor but it does resets itself so it would humm again after a few minutes and tripps off again..try to unplug the unit for a day to cool off the compressr and then plug it back. if it will happen again, you need to replace the compressor. i hope i was able to help..

Maytag refrigerator clicking noise and stopped working

How long a period of time have you noticed this noise? If it just started and the refrigerator just stopped it could have entered its defrost cycle. When the defrost heaters come on you may hear the heat causing some expansion. After a few minutes(18-22) the defrost cycle ends and the refrigerator will restart.

Refrigerator and freezer not cooling properly

you have a deffective compressor the humming that your hearing or the clicking is the relay on the compressor trying to start the unit, the compressor is stuck and cannot start, leaving it unplugged lets the compressor cool down, but as it tries to recool the unit it gets orerheaated again, thus the bad compressor
