I have a question, and was wondering if this will work. I recently bought a lcd tv, and a ps3. I also have a receiver which only has an hdmi out, not an in. I was wondering if it is possible to connect the ps3 to the receiver for sound, and to the tv through hdmi for video. I guess the other question is if I'm just stuck either with no surround, or buying a new surround system? Thanks
Yes it would be possible to separate audio and video from your PS3. You would need to go to the PS3 setting for audio and choose Optical instead of HDMI. You would need to connect and Optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver. Then on the receiver you would need to set the digital inut for your source(PS3) to optical.
Ive got an easier way of oding it w/o going to ur ps3 settings. just hook the ps3 to the tv directly and run an optical cable from ur tv to the receiver. in that way u dont have to mess with the settings of ur ps3. enjoy! ü

Check the audio settings in the PS3 console. Then check the firmware version of HDMI that your receiver uses. It may be listed on the manufacturers webpage or in your manual. It must be 1.3a or 1.3b in order to work with your PS3. The downside to this is that there is no firmware "patch" to correct the problem. If you still have issues, post a reply on this thread and I can help you further and give you some options that "Will" correct the problem without degrading video and audio. Hope this helps.
You can connect PS3 video via HDMI to receiver and from receiver via HDMI to TV. But RX-V365 doesn't support HDMI audio, so you have to connect audio separately via SPDIF digital cable. I think PS3 uses optical SPDIF, so you will need optical cable. If you can't find cheaps optical cables in your shop, you can try byuing from ebay ($1-5 max.)
i hate to say it i got the same problem and the only way i sorted was a master reset which means u have to do all the set up again and asign all the hdmi again but since i done that no problems to do this un plug the lot for an hour reconnect everything then push and hold the vcr button and push stand by a message will say clear on the receiver then it is back to when u frist got it out th box hope this helps
Help with hooking PS3 to a Denon Receiver. It worked before, but I had to move everything to a different location and when I hooked it back up the PS3 has sound but no picture. I have it hooked directly to the receiver with and HDMI cable (the receiver is hooked up to our cable box which is directly hooked to the tv via HDMI cable).
I have a similar setup and am having problems of my own, but i've got it somewhat working at the moment.
I have the TV connected via HDMI to the receivers HDMI output port.
I have the PS3 connected via HDMI to the receivers HDMI input port 1.
I went on the receiver and followed the instructions in the manual to setup the DVD function on the receiver (i chose to call my ps3 a dvd) to use HDMI-1. I can't remember the button combination as i'm not at my hosue right now, but it was in the HDMI section of the manual (page 44 on my manual). Essentially I had to tell the receiver to enable HDMI for the DVD function rather than being defaulted to "No". At that point, with the default ps3 setup, I was able to get video to pass through.
Next, i went into the video options on the ps3 and changed it to 1080p (since my tv supports that).
Where I"m having my problem is that the sound from the ps3 outputs directly to the TV and doesn't output on my receiver for some reason.
How I've rigged that to work is to take the HDMI to RCA cable that came with my PS3 and i plugged in the Red and White wires on the back of the receiver in the DVD section of inputs. At that point the sound comes through the receiver.
What I don't know how to do and would really like to know is how to get the sound to output on my receiver via HDMI only and not with the extra cable.
Anyway, if i'm making sense above and you follow that, you should be up and running (but maybe not in an optimal configuration).
Let me know if you ahve any questions.
Also, if anyone knows the solution to my issue, i'm all ears.
