How do i do drying only

From the document I see, it is only a matter of pressing the "Dry" button. This is from the manual, available at http://www.lg.com/us/appliances/washer-dryer-combos/LG-WM3431HW.jsp and selecting the "Support" tab. On the right, there will be a "Washer/Dryer Combos Manual" link, which will download to your computer. Listed under "Dry" in Section 9 is the following.
• Drying options are easily selected with the Dry button. • For most even drying , make sure all articles in the clothes load are similar in material and thickness. • Do not overload dryer by stuffing too many articles into drum. Items must be able to tumble freely • If you open door and remove load before dryer has finished its cycle, remember to press the Start/Pause button. • By pressing the Dry button, you can select "Normal" - "More" - "Time" - "Off" - "Low Temp" - "Less" • Your dryer can handle a load of up to 9 lbs. (4 kg) dry weight of articles. • When drying cycle is completed, [Cd] (Cool Down) is displayed on the Multi display. • Cool Down is set automatically when the drying cycle is complete. • If clothes are not removed promptly when the drying cycle ends, wrinkles can form. • The Cool Down feature periodically tumbles, rearranges and fluffs the load to avoid wrinkles for up to 4 hours. • The message [Cd] will continue to display until the clothes are removed or the Start/Pause button is pressed
Hope this solves your problem. I highly recommend downloading the users manual, it is a wealth of information and will prove useful in many circumstances.

Dryer gets hot, outside vent seems to have plenty of air coming out. Lint screens all clean. But the unit takes two cycles to dry and in the past it always dried in one cycle. Whats wrong??

Is this happening on automatic dry cycle or timed drying?
It sounds like your moisture sensor is "confused" and shutting down heat prematurely. This part can be replaced.

Also double check your exhaust vent for blockages or standing water or sagging or open pipe

Also , your heater element may be shutting on or off prematurely. Could be a high limit thermostat problem. Or there is obstuction causing over heat

hope this helps

Dryer will not shut off in any 'auto' mode. Time display ticks down, then jumps up again and keeps running. Dryer does works properly when 'timed dry' is selected. Checked and cleaned exhaust vent. ...

How long is the vent from the dryer to the outside? Dryer vents that are longer than 8 feet with more than (2) 90 degree turns--can affect drying performance.
Setting the DRY LEVEL selector to *Very Dry* will solve most dry-ability issues. In homes with abnormally long vents--even the longer run time in the *Very Dry* setting is usually not sufficient to dry laundry loads.
Reducing the length of the vent or starting a second cycle becomes necessary to fully dry the clothing.
If a second cycle was started---only the amount of time that is needed to dry laundry will be used before dropping to 6 minutes and then the cycle will end with dry laundry.

Gas dryer heats fine but shuts down before the drying cycle is over taking longer to dry clothes. Lint trap and exhaust tube cleaned out.

You are going to most likely need a vent cleaning. The dryer is getting too hot and shutting off because it is not exhausting good.

UN-ending Auto dry cycle

This is caused by the dryer vent being blocked and not allowing the moist air to be removed from the dryer. To confirm this. Dry a load of close in a timed dry setting. Set the time on a specific time and then start the dryer. Wait for about 5 min. See if the timer has moved. If it has then the problem is not the timer. It is the exhaust vent being plugged up somewhere. Moisture how the auto dry setting works. The dryer sences moisture and runs longer to dry your clothes. With the dryer exhaust vent blocked, wet moist air is comming back into the dryer and fooling the sensor into believing the close are not dry and runs for a very long time. It is not uncommon for this problem to cause a dryer to never shut off. Your dryer exhaust vent is plugged up with lint somewhere.

Dryer shuts down in the middle of the cycle before the timer goes off. if you try to restart it will not. wait 15 minutes or so and it starts right back up and finishes drying the load.

Probably the motor is getting too hot and the thermal overload switch is shutting it down.Usually means bad motor or dirty motor. You'll have to take it apart to see. Model # and Brand would help.

Why wont my machine start drying?

I called Whirlpool on 08706008989. The machine can only dry half a load of washing at a time. At the end of the washing cycle, the Programme dial should be at either the sun or half sun symbol. Remove half the washing, set the drying time via the drying time dial and press the 1/2 Load Dryer button - Voila dry clothes!
