Updates won't update the net3.5 and because it wasn't a success it blocked me out of everything that pertains to my system when it starts up it tells me its missing system resource file

    hi lorshoe...

    do you remember exactly what happened while you were installing the update? did your computer reboot while installing? normally it would try to recover the install.

    can you boot into windows at all? there is a way to fix this, easier than you might think, if you can get into windows...

Look at the name of the file missing, write it down, and using a good computer goto the microsoft website and down load that file(s) and install them on your bad system using your cd driveand you should be in good shape after that.

When you opened it up, did you make sure that the SATA cable and power plug are installed properly? If the SATA cable is plugged in properly and the button to open the tray works (it has power), then it should be working properly. A generic driver should be fine, and Windows can update automatically if you want.

No updates just error 646

Hi

This problem usually occurs with vista operating system.

Try the following steps to install the update successfully.

Stop the services pertaining to Windows Update.

1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
2. If you receive a notification from User Account Control simply click Continue.
3. At the command prompt, type the following commands and then press ENTER after each command.
net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
net stop cryptsvc
4. Please do not close the Command Prompt window.

Rename folders pertaining to Windows Update

At the command prompt, type the following commands and then press Enter after each command:
ren %systemroot%System32Catroot2 Catroot2.old
ren %systemroot%SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

Start services pertaining to Windows Update.
net start wuauserv
net start bits
net start cryptsvc
Close the Command Prompt window.

Download the standalone package file of the update “KB967043” and install it.

Restart the computer once the update is installed.

NIS08 has a specific system requirement. has your system passed this?

in regards to everyones posts,

your issue is a fail installation and thus requires you get get rid of all the temp files in your %temp%,temp,prefetch folders.

to do this.

start>run>%temp%>delete everything here...
start>run>temp> delete all
start>run>prefetch
somethings there are actives files(currently being used by other programs), so just restart your computer to delete this later.

when done doing this, you have a higher chance to have a successful installation.

everything is in the norton site including the removal tool for failed installations.

if for failed updates... download the intelligent updater.

You can go to "updates" in your "apple icon" top left hand of the screen. It will check for updates for you. Install all updates. If you havent done this ever or in a while, it is going to take some time to update everything. If that still doesnt work for you, Download firefox, it is a much better web browser than safari.
