Changing the compressor and capacitor and filter dryer should be no problem.
How old is the system? It may be under warranty. Most systems are 5-10 year warranty on the sealed system. That inckudes the compressor.
What exactly is the system doing or not doing?

It depends on how old your system is. A heat pump that is 7 years or older I would recommend replacing the system and not just the compressor. Yes the first company is right in saying that you have to install a higher S.E.E.R. system (assuming yours is less then a 13) that is an EPA law. You can replace just the compressor however, if the system is older then 7 years you will start to have other parts breakdown soon. It's less expensive to replace the compressor but in the long run it is more cost effective to replace the system for both future repair and operating cost reasons. Good luck and don't forget to give me a Fixya rating.

Heat pump compressor wont come on in heat mode, works fine in cool mode, we get heat occaisionally for about 2 min, then the compressor shuts off. it is a fridgedaire window unit.

Try setting the thermostat at a normal heat setting. By raising the temperature too high the unit thinks that the heat pump won't be effective and go into strip heat mode.

I have a Goodman Model CPLE24-1A, Serial # 0207416067. First, can you tell me how old the unit is? Next the fan comes on in the outside unit and it sounds like the compresser trys to start but cant no

Hello, based on your serial number It looks like the unit was built in Feb of 07. If the compressor is trying to start you may either have a bad capacitor or one of the windings in the compressor is open. Start by replacing the capacitor as it is inexpensive, if it does not work than looks like your compressor will need to be replaced.

I have just moved in to a flat with a vent axia storage heater. I switched it on last night and although the output in off it is still heating up the room today. Is that normal? thanks Heather

Yes, Heather, it's working correctly. It lives up to it's name "storage heater". When you turned it on last night, it heated and at the same time it was storing heat to be used later, during peak electrical use hours, without having to use any electricity. It's working as it should.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Air conditioning not cold enough .

You need to check the following :

1. Refrigerant gas presssure ( It should has at least 60 psi on suction side)
2. Clean lines of unit ( Dirty unit will downgrade the performance)
3. Compressor performance ( Did you hear abnormally sound of it while running?. It may deteriorated already).

What is life expectancy of L G air conditioner if properly serviced, Model LBM's?

Normally 3 Star rated and 5 star rated compressor are life for 12 to 15 years, if properly maintained.
And also depends on replacement of spares when required. It should be original spare/s replacement.
But normally, 10 to 12 years life for any air conditioner with proper voltage and proper maintenance is there. thanks and hope, it's helpful.

Hello,50PSI is too low for a 410a system. Is it possible you let out too much freon? The precharge is for about 30 feet line set.Are both systems doing the same thing?A little overcharge is not the end of the world.Try adding some gas back.Rember to add liquid only!!

Heather don't work

If the unit still works on cooling you might have a faulty reversing valve/ heating plate. If you are confident with a multi meter you could test if they have power going to it and see if you have a faulty part but it would be best to get some tech help out

3000 Watts is a little short on the power necessary for the compressor to restart. When it compressor starts it may draw 27 amps or more for a split second. 3000 / 120 = 25 amps. when the fan slows down it is telling you the voltage has dropped and it doesn't have enough power. After the pressure has balanced out in the A/C system the compressor can start against no pressure difference.
