Question about HP Officejet J4680 InkJet Printer

Trying to connect PC to printer

The CD unit on my tower somehow appears to be stuck. Therefore I cannot use the ''Startup CD'' that came with me new J4680 printer.

Is it possible to download this information on line?

Hope you can help me.

Thanks

I disconnected the printer from the tower for computer service with a local vendor(blue screen). Repair completed. When I reconnected the printer, I discovered that I was unable to print documents from the...

Open Control Panel, Printers and faxes. Check if there is icon for your printer. If not, you have to install the driver using CD that comes with the printer.
Blue screen often means very badly broken windows installation and your vendor probably reinstalled it as new installation. Therefore your printer may not be installed.

I'm stuck, frusterated and lost! I spent two

My friend, if I may take the liberty of mowing the grass on your question ...

It appears you have upgraded your operating system from XP to 7. It appears the hardware you were using was working under XP. It appears it is not working under 7.

My friend, there is a nice name for old stuff, they call it CLASSIC or LEGACY. Me?, I'm "Classic".

Here is what you should do before you tear any more hair out. Go to the Microsoft site that addresses compatability issues. Here is the address http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/en-us/default.aspx Look through the listing for your devices. You will also find a listing of software compatability issues. If it is on the list you are in... read on.

If your device is found in the listing, 7 should run it with no further intervention by you. (Translation: If your stuff is on the list, Windows 7 will run it, period. If your stuff is not on the list ... well, it may work and it may not work.)

If your stuff is not on the list, the next step is to see if HP has written a driver for your device. Here is the address: http://www.hp.com/#Support when you get here, use their search engine to find your device. Make sure you are asking for downloads that will run on your operating system (Windows 7(?)). If you find a new driver, Great, you are in business. Can't find it, send them a e-mail asking if they intend to support their product, tell them how happy you are with the product and how disappointed you are that a big company like HP is leaving you out in the cold ... something like that ... They will respond.

They will tell you they are working on it or they will tell you it is time to get a new printer/fax (what ever).

There are third party groups that write drivers. Good luck with that. Their stuff might work for you, it might not. Frankly, I'd shy away from most 3rd party stuff.

Having said that ... You could have your computer scanned for free at www.pcpitstop.com and see what they have to offer. They do have some 3rd party stuff and I have used it in the past with mostly positive results.

So, my friend, that is what I have to say about your challenge.

I hope this helps you.
