Holding C goes to the same screen as holding F12 then selecting cd rom. it does not give a press any key option it only ask to hit F1 or F2. the F1 function to run the reboot doesn't seem to work.

It is the reboot disk that came with the notebook. The F1 key works. just not to prompt the disk to do it's thing. is there a comand I can use from the E:\ screen that might start it?

This isnt a MAC so C wont help. click f12 then select CD ROM to boot from it. then it will ask "press any key" then do that. ....the rest figure it out yourself

there isnt a comand, did you go tot he bios and set your first boot device as the CD rom or the DVD rom? so it boots from there first.

normaly you get f1 request when your battery for the bios is dead.

My dell notebook stoped working it shows only curser on the screen and there are some lines on the screen nothing wrong with the power supply

If it does boot to windows and only does not shows the icons..than you have to click right on the desktop and choose to show icons ..and will be ok ..If the screen you wrote about is just a start screen and it never started windows..than I think it is a windows fault and need to be reinstalled .Do that by entering the recovery partition and go with the total installation of the operation system ..
to do that choose the key indicated on screen and select the action ..
usually on start screen it is written to press F2 for the set-up and f12 for the boot menu and probably F11 for teh recovery ..if it is so ..just press f11 on start ..go to recovery ..choose complete recovery ..and will get it to the factory stage .
If the recovery do not work and you do have a disk for it ..insert the disk and boot from it ..try to boot to recovery with the disk on ..and see if ti works..if it dopes its ok ..if not ..restart . and press F12 to go to boot menu .and choose to boot from CD /DVD drive ..and hit enter .. this will force it to boot from disk and load the recovery .
same procedure with a boot-able disk with operation system, ..in case you do not have any recovery ..or just have recovery for drivers..and you will be forced to use a standard boot-able disk to load the operation system again
have a nice day ..and please rate my answer ..1

Hi, I have a netbook running Windows XP. When I start it up it has a white screen with the manufacturer name, at the bottom it says "Press F2 to run setup, Press TAB to display BIOS POST...

I'm afraid that you'll have to get some installation disks for an operating system and boot from it using an external DVD drive (for Windows 7 for instance). If System Recovery doesn't proceed, that's the only way I know to load an operating system.

ACER ASPIRE 3680 --OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND

Hello,

its showing operating system not found, because the system cannot detect your hard disk.

Open your system, remove and fix back the hard disk, then try again.

Take care.

If the flash bios installation was stopped, you might have to do it from dos, otherwise, go ahead and press f2 and correct any obvious errors (ie floppy drive listed and not present)
