After turning on this TV a black screen appears that shields most of the picture. How do I remove this screen?

- When playing a VHS tape, the picture is momentarily clean and complete, but after 5 seconds a solid black square fills 80% of the screen. If I fast forward, reverse, or use any function that adds data to the display, the picture again returns in full screen view, but after I switch to normal view, the black box returns.- hoohaw2000
