Question about Audio Players & Recorders
I also have an old teac a4010sl reel to reel. Over the years the belt has disintergrated. It seem to me that in order to change the belt, one has to somehow remove the piece that holds the axle of the capstan to the unit itself. I'm just not sure if I have to remove the screws that holds the capstan/tape head unit by going into the back of the unit or can I fix the problem by working from the front.
It is a bit of a job as 4 screw need to come out of the main support from the rear and then the capstan bearing unmounted from that support to get the belt in the machine. There are some linkage items to watch when you put it back together but then after that it should be good to go. Make sure to oil the capstan bearing. I may have done 100 of them at this point and one just the other day. it is not the easiest of decks to do this on but then the belts can last 10 years between changes if used regularly.

You can but try! However either make a drawing of how the thing fits together or better still take pictures if you have a digital camera. Then you will know how it fitted together.
