So my GE fridge is making a terrible howling noise and I'm trying to figure out where to tape to get it to stop like you did

Justin, when does it make the noise? when the compressor comes on, when the freezer fan comes on? sometimes taping is just a short term solution.. can you push on one side or the other to change or stop the noise??

My refrigerator/freezer making a howling sound and an intermittent whirring sound. I have noticed this at night, not sure if it is doing this during the day.

I have the same model, and the exact same problem. Additionally, the compressor/fan for the freezer cycles up and then down (rising and falling noise pitch) at a frequency of about every 5 seconds. The howling is worse at night(!?). It is 4 yrs old and was in the house we just bought. Help quickly, or this is a CraigsList item.

Thanks

Whining/howling on freezer side

Need to unplug the refrigerator and remove the cover inside freezer compartment. Sounds like the evaporator fan is hitting something and we need to resolve this as soon as possible. Thanks Sea Breeze

My GE side by side refridgerator makes a "howling" sound. Any ideas?

the problem you are having is in the main control board. ge has had a problem with this part causing the fan motor to go into high and low speed which causes the howling noise. unfortunately it is a costly fix, around $125 for the part. if you are savy to changing this part it is a matter of unplgging about 5 connections and replugging them. the new board has an extra set of pin that nothing connects to. READ the instuctions and it is a simple fix, saving about $50-60 in labor costs.
