All surface ignitors are wired in parallel. One of the knob units switches is shorting to ground. Find the short...it might be spilled food or something else. Be careful. Try to inspect visually with the power off and remedy the problem.
let me understand, you p[lug in you oven and the broiler will automaticalle start??? not allowing you to cancel???? if that s the case unplug and remove the back panel from tyhe range, sound sas if the wire leading to the broil ignitor has shorted itself against the cabinet of the range itself, look for whiter braided wires at broiler hieght, chances arte they are hitting against hte cabinet right near the vent area.
I have a GE Gas Stove XL44 the stove top buners don't light by themselves without manual lighting. When I turn on the buner knob the buner doesn't click. Also I used my self- cleaning oven for the first time and stopped it before the time was up after that is when the stove top buners wouldn't light by theirselves.
to jenna 12 Does your stove have a stop and start timer? When you set your clock you may have inadvertantly moved the stop or start time on that timer. Check them, if they have knobs for setting the stop and start time, make sure the pointer is pointing to the current time and that the knob is popped out and not stuck in. when you have it right both the stop and the start knob should be out, not pushed in. They will pop out when you turn them to the current time.
These timers allow you to start something cookin at a time delayed several hours. this means they will not allow the oven to come on until it hits that time that you may have set in error.
If your stove has a digital stop and start timer check each one so that both show the current time, then your oven should light.
