Question about Epson Stylus C42UX InkJet Printer

2 Answers

Both the power light and maintenance lights are blinking.

The printer won't respond. The color ink is low, but the cartridge area will not move into place so it can be changed. I have tried turning it on and off, turning the computer on and off, as well as unplugging the printer and replugging it into the power source.

The download, windows, etc. worked just as you said which means you are very good at explaining things to non-technical people like myself. I even received a little applet that said the counters had been reset. However, the two lights are still blinking, and the printer still refuses to respond, but thank you so much for your help. Any other ideas?

Trying to reset the protection counter. Have taken off drivers for my C42UX and then installed SSC but it says Printer off or some other problem! Have tried it with C42UX drivers on and no change. Taken it off and tried Dr Tool but not having any luck, says it can't find the printer. Both lights are flashing and its connected via USB????

Please can anyone help as I need to get this up and running again today if possible...I've tried as many variations as I can think of to get both SSC and Dr Tool to recognise it (havent had them both on pc at once)

If both lights are flashing, it usually means the Waste Ink Pads in your printer are saturated with ink and the waste ink "protection" counter has exceeded its limit. You can restore your printer to a working condition immediately by using the SSC utility - download from:

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

Install it, and double click the ssc printer icon in the bottom left corner (System Tray). Choose Configuration and set your printer type (C4x), then close the ssc window. Now right click the ssc icon in the system tray and choose Protection Counter. You should see that the current count is above the limit; then choose reset to set it to zero. You will need to fib about having changed the waste ink pads! This will stop the lights flashing and restore normal operation.

However, remember that eventually ink will overflow from the waste ink area and make a dreadful mess, so you must change the waste ink pads before this happens. This requires the disassembly of the printer.

If you decide to have a go at replacing the ink pads yourself, report back and I will provide further help. It is a pretty simple job once someone explains how to get the case apart!

Sorry, for "bottom left corner (System Tray)" read "bottom right corner (System Tray)"

I forgot to say you have to turn the printer off and then on again after the reset. Did you check the protection counter level before the reset to check it was over the limit, by the way?

I cannot stop the ink cartridge holder to stop in the correct positioo to replace the cartridges on my epsom cx5500 printer

Hello jgw_cansdale,
Welcome to Fixya.com!
If the Ink light (fon3_66.gif) is flashing that means one or more of your ink cartridge is low on ink, and if it's steady it means one or more is out of ink. For Epson printers, there are lots of ways to identify whether your printer is out or low on ink. For today let's just stick with the printer itself.\
Remember: A flashing fon3_66.gif means LOW ON INK, and a steady fon3_66.gifmeans OUT OF INK.
1. Open the scanner bed by lifting it up just like opening a brief case. By doing this you should now be able to see the carrier area this is the area were the ink carrier or ink holder moves left and right,
2. Press the Ink button. Now remember flashing means LOW and steady means OUT of ink.
If the Ink light is flashing, and you pressed the Ink button the carrier or ink hold will move under a small arrow just right above the carrier to point to you which ink cartridge is low on ink. pressing it again will point to another if you have multiple cartridges that are running low, if not it moves directly to the ink cartridge replacement area were you can pop the carrier's lid open to access the inks.
If the Ink light is steady, and you pressed the Ink button the carrier or ink hold will move under a small arrow just right above the carrier to point to you which ink cartridge is out of ink. pressing it again will point to another if you have multiple cartridges that are out of ink, if not it moves directly to the ink cartridge replacement area were you can pop the carrier's lid open to access the inks.

How to remove the ink cartridges?

r_1.gif Make sure that the printer is on. The fontp.gif power light should be on, but not flashing. r_2.gif Open the printer cover. r_3.gif Press the fontb1.gif maintenance button. The print head moves to the black or color ink cartridge replacement position, the fontp.gif power light begins to flash, and the fontb1.gif error light begins to flash or remains on. When both cartridges are out of ink, the print head moves to the black ink cartridge replacement position first. After replacing the black cartridge, press the fontb1.gif maintenance button again to switch to the color cartridge replacement position. 98a04.gif r_4.gif Lift up the ink cartridge clamp as far as it will go. The cartridge rises partly out of the cartridge holder. Lift the cartridge out of the printer and dispose of it properly. Do not take the used cartridge apart or try to refill it. 98a05.gif r_5.gif Remove the new ink cartridge from its protective bag. Next, remove only the yellow tape seal from the cartridge. Do not touch the green IC chip on the side of the cartridge. 98a06.gif r_6.gif Place the ink cartridge into the ink cartridge holder, and then close the ink cartridge clamps. Do not apply excessive force to the cartridge. 98a07.gif r_7.gif Close the printer cover. r_8.gif Press the fontb1.gif maintenance button. The printer moves the print head and begins charging the ink delivery system. This process takes about thirty seconds to complete. When the ink charging process is finished, the printer returns the print head to its home position, the fontp.gif power light stops flashing and remains on, and the fontb1.gif error light goes out. 98a08.gif If you feel that my answer helped you then please give a vote for my answer.

..."Open the ink supply andgently move the ink cartridges to the left. Then reach in to the rightside and you'll find a small (1/2 x 1 inch) sponge. Push it down andoff/on the machine. try it now. or ...go to where I found out more than I should know about Canon's and where I got my quote...http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/inkjet/39177 good luck.

HP 932 RED LIGHT STAYS ON

The light you describe is the ink light.
When that light is blinking, try this.

Turn on the printer. Open the front cover and look at the carrier for the ink cartridges. There is a white arrow right above the latch for the color cartridge.
Once the carrier stops moving, the white arrow should be pointing to a symbol which represents the problem (the reason the light is blinking.) Examples are low ink black, low ink color, sick black ( replace ) , sick color ( replace ).

IF you have just replaced your black cartridge, you might need to replace your color cartridge too.
This printer will not work without both ink cartridges installed and full.
You cant print with a full black and an empty color cartridge unfortunately, even if you only want to print black.

Hope this helps!

Hi Greenhorn, Your info is slightly conflicting - I think. As I remember the C60 has just 2 LED's: 1 - Green for Power 2 - Red for Error The third button - Cartridge exchange - has no LED Now it is a while since I looked at a C60 and my brain leaks like a sieve, but that's the way I remember it and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. The error codes I remember are: Printer status - Indicators - Priority Power - Error Power ON condition On - Ink sequence Blink - Ink Cartridge change mode Blink - Data processing Blink - Paper Out *1 - On Paper jam condition *1 - On Ink end (Black) *1 - On -> Blink Ink level low (Black) - Blink-> Blink Ink end (Color) *1 - On -> Blink2 Ink level low (Color) - Blink-> Blink2 Ink end (Black and Color) - On -> On No Ink Cartridge (Black or Color) *1 - On Maintenance request (Ink Overflow Countererror) *1 Alt Blink Alt Blink Fatal error *1 Off On Special setting Blink2 Blink2
