Question about Eureka Smartvac 4870 Bagged Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

It is not clear how to access the front spool on a Eureka 'Boss - smartvac' 4870K vacuum cleaner, when replacing the belt. Trying to force the flimsy black plastic lever attached to the shiny silver spool where the front end of the belt appears as if it should go, would cause breakage.

The shiny spool is the mechanism that stops the brushroll (brushroll control). The belt only slips around the brushroll, and the motor spindle.

Eureka boss sucked up water and won't work

The water probably got into the motor causing it to "burn" out. The motor will need to be replaced, but by the time you include labor cost it may be cheaper just to replace the vacuum.

Vacuum starts then stops

It sounds like a break in the cord or a loose connection at a plug. If the cord is self winding then it could be contacts on the spool too.

4870 roller part number

I know the belt number
Eureka Part Number: 61110B (Replaces 61110, 61110A)
And the roller i think: Genuine Eureka Brush roller part number 61250-3 for Eureka The Boss/Smart vac/smartvac ultra 4800 series vacuums including models 4870 and 4880
Hope this helps you.

My Eureka The boss Smartvac Model #4870 roller brush won't turn even on the highest setting and the belt smells hot. we took the belt off. How can you tell if it needs replaced?

Just by what you explained I can tell that it needs to be replaced. The belt doesn't have to be broken to need replacing, if it is stretched and worn then it will slip on the motor shaft and not turn the brush roll and get hot. Eureka the Boss SmartVac just turned off and won't turn on

Make sure it is not the electrical outlet that has tripped. If not then you basically have 3 choices. Cord, switch, motor. A service tech. should be able to diagnose.

Slipping belt onto motor shaft pulley

On most vacuums, you:
put the belt on the motor,

slip the beater bar thru the belt,

put the end opposite the belt into the frame,

stretch the belt and put the belt end of the beater bar into the frame.

Hope that helps!

Can't figure out how to get the belt around vacuum motor shaft

I am assuming you are referring to the beater bar belt. You will either find a release lever on each side or a small screw and bar restraining the bearing that holds the bar in place. Removing whichever of these you find will allow you to install the new belt. Clean up the dirt accumulation on the bearings while it is apart.
