GE refrigerator non defrost issue with Mother Board

This procedure will define the issue with a non defrost issue in all GE refrigerators controlled by a Mother Board.

Description of Non Defrost.

Are you noticing a drop in temperature in the refrigerator and or a frosting of the lower rear back panel of the freezer. This would indicate a non defrost issue. There are four reasons for this to ocurr. The four reasons will be adressed in the instrutional video I have posted below.

The tech has set up in the back ground a G.E. freezer section to demonstrate an actual scenairo.

Click on the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrSQz-5F1hs

You will need the print to the Mother Board.....The Mother board controls all aspects of the unit. Because you have a defrost issue do not think that it is because of the mother board. Most of the time it is just the defrost heater that is bad. If the defrost heater is bad remember to always change out the defrost thermostat also. Note the print....you can check all aspects of the unit from here....

Hi there I have a jenn air fridge jc2228pehb I have had expense and problems and the repair man told me that I need a new motherboard that tells the fridge to defrost. The freezer is getting frosty in...

That would be the first $500.00 defrost control board I have ever heard of in my life! Look if you want to do this yourself I will give you step by step directions. Click Here=> JC2228PEHB Control Panel
Once there see parts labeled 8 and 12? Number 12 is your=> Adaptive Defrost Control
No one has a photo for this part=> 67002163 Adaptive Defrost Control Board and here is your auto damper=> 12571701 Auto Damper
Click Here for Repair Clinic's version of that board, again no photo=> 67002163
I like their 1 year return warranty. I have the service manual and will instruct you on how and what to do so you let me know and I will go through this with you. Oh almost forgot to mention your model has no mother board! Thanks, Sea Breeze

I have a GE side-by-side refrigerator/freezer that's not maintaining cold temperatures. I was told to replace the defrost thermostat which I did and it seemed to work for about a week or so. But now it's...

If the refrigerator isn’t cooling at all the motherboard is a good possibility burnt marks or not. If the fans are not running it could be a defective fan, motherboard or both. Take a look at this page http://www.appliance-repair-it.com/refrigerator-fan-motor.html

If the refrigerator isn’t defrosting properly, after a few days the freezer coils will get blocked out with heavy frost. There are four things that will cause this, defrost thermostat, defrost heater, evaporator thermistor and the motherboard. This page should help http://appliance-repair-it.com/GE-refrigerator-repair.html

Stops cooling ice melts and leaks water on the floor

That model refrigerator uses the mother control board for deciding when defrost is to take place. It has no defrost timer or Adaptive Defrost Control like other refrigerators. This sounds like *********** board part number WR55X10942 is malfunctioning. The board decides most functions of your refrigerator. Until the board is replace I do not believe the problem will resolve itself. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Fridge never stops

How to check everything
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

The back wall of my fridge is freezing up... I had a repair man replace two sensors and to no avail then I replaced the mother board and that did not work either... what now?

Unplug the refrigerator . Remove the motherboard cover . Remove the blue plug with large wires from the motherboard . Looking at the plug , you'll see wire1,wire2,space,wire3 . Using a short piece of wire with both ends striped , insert the ends into wire2 and wire3 . Plug refrig back in . Look in the freezer at the bottom of the rear wall , for a red glow . May take several min . If no red glow , replace the defrost heater AND the defrost thermostat (bimetal ) . If red glow , bad control board .
The defrost heater and bimetal , are behind the rear lower panel inside the freezer section . The heater is at the bottom of the coils , and the bimetal is clipped on at the top of the coils ( blue and pink wire ) .

Compressor won't turn on. Lights turn on. Won't cool anymore.

Make sure that the defrost timer is not stuck in defrost mode also the compress may be stuck. you can purchase a compressor booster kit from your local appliance parts store for about $15.00.

It sounds like the relay could be stuck closed on the electric side of the board. This would not allow the element to stop working. Sometimes resetting the board will fix this problem if it is still under warranty they will cover both the board or the resetting.
