The model of your Toshiba not only locks out using screws, plastic ridges are also closing the actual case. You may either carefully use a cutter blade to separate the casing or anything thin that will not damage the plastic case.

If I were you, I would first try a system recovery as it has crashed.
What's an inverter? Does it mean you have connected the power supply with wrong polarity? I dont think you need to open it.

Tip

LCD Monitor Repair (Capacitors)

This tip is a generalized repair based on the inverter board itself and can be considered to be about %75 effective.
Power board repair is pretty much the same as inverter board repair since, unlike LCD Televisions, these 2 components share the same board.

Here is what a typical power/Inverter board looks like.

95c7705.jpg

You will notice, at the top of this power board inverter combo, several cylinder shaped objects. These are called capacitors, and we will be dealing with only these components for this repair procedure, since this is the leading cause of LCD Monitor failures.

You will notice that each capacitor has an X or Y shape grooved into the top.

b518921.jpeg
Ruptured Capacitors

This X or Y is designed to buckle outwards in the event that the capacitor fails, as shown in this photo.
Your capacitor can also swell out of the bottom and separate it from the board. This will most often show as a black rubber like stopper protruding from under the capacitor. If either condition exists, then this repair is for you.

Ok, so now you have the cause, so lets see if this repair applies to you.
Disassembly of your LCD monitor is actually harder than the repair itself.
The easiest method I know of is to first remove all screws from the LCD, remove the stand then use fingers alone, and slide them under the plastic frame at the front of the monitor.

WARNING!

Prying in this area with ANY tool will most likely crack your screen!
So don't use tools here! You can also use a thin flat piece of steel, such as a butter knife along the outer joint of the plastic frame itself, rocking gently between the joints to separate the locking connectors between the frame and the back plate. Remember that each LCD model is different, so proceed with caution.

If you were successful, you should now be seeing a panel with a silver colored metal RF (Radio Frequency) shield covering both your power board and your VGA connection board. You will need to peel the chrome looking tape, (Copper on some models) back and remove this cover.

You will see some wires going from your LCD screen to your power board/inverter. These are usually colored pink/white and black/aqua.
You will need to remove all of these and mark the power board so you will know how to put them back the way they came off.

Next, you will need to remove the data/video cable leading to your LCD screen. Refer to the image below.

92e23e9.jpg
Now you should be able to extract your power board from the Monitor case and replace any swollen capacitors you find. These capacitors will have 3 identifiers that you will need when purchasing replacements.

1. Pico or Microfarad, usually marked like this (330u)
2. Voltage marked like this (25v)
3. Heat range/Tolerance 105c etc.

These are usually listed like this.
CAP ELECT 10000UF 63V SU BI-POLAR

EXAMPLE PHOTO

Some may be purchased at radio shack, or an electronics warehouse, I use digikey and other suppliers.
Replace and resolder all Capacitors, also checking for loose components before reassembly and resoldering as necessary.

Remember that these components are very inexpensive (around $1.75 to $3.00), which makes this repair well worth the time and effort, even if you fail to make it work. So before you decide to trash that old flat screen LCD monitor, try this cheap and often effective repair and save a little cash.

Good Luck to ya!

Monitor goes black periodically. Turning it off then on makes it ok fr a bit.

This could be a faulty inverter or CCFL backlighting. Since by turning it off and back on again fires the inverter.

Take care!

My Dell All in One Inspiron One 19 will not power on!

Dell Inspiration One 19A Dead - Repair

Face down. Remove the plastic panel covering the sockets at the back. Remove the stand, 4 small black countersunk screws. Turn over and unclip the bottom panel. Unscrew the plastic piece across the computer under that panel. The escutcheon around the screen should now unclip. Unscrew ~8 screws around the edge holding the back to the metal-work. Carefully invert, face down, and lift off the back. The power supply is in the middle. Another bottom piece of metal may need to be unscrewed first. Remove the cover from the power supply. Four screws hold the PC board in the power supply box.
Two green 820 uf, 25 volt capacitors are likely to have bulged tops.
Replace them anyway. Reassemble after testing.

Monitor comes on for a few second flickers and goes black

This sounds like your back lights are going out or the power supply section has a problem.

If you turn the computer on then look at the edge of the screen if you see a ghost image then it would confirm the back light problem. That can be caused by several internal problems. You should check with a different monitor or try your monitor on a different machine to confirm the monitor is the problem. Check your warranty to see if you can get it replaced.

two screws on back of base and then take off back cover.remove sheild cover.
disconnect all cables. 4 screws hold power supply in.
rca connector board has little black button holding it on. pry up and then remove board to access connecters behind.
pull all cables out towards you.
remove 6 screws that hold base to back of screen, pull up tape under where cables go thru hole.
remove base from screen.
take out screws on back of screen. carefully pry all around case to seperate.
remove back, and then sheild. there are a few screws that hold it on.
If your screen was black, then the two inverter boards could be the problem. there is one in the upper left corner and one in the lower left corner. you can by them on internet. match the partnumber, there are 2 diffent ones.

My computer screen keeps flickering sometimes it will go completely black.

this most likley is s screen connection problem. You need to take off the top case for the screen. Usually two screws to a side. May differ with machine company. once screen case is off, there us usually a cable covered up up silver tape or white tape. take tape off and push two video connections togeather. Replace tape and put cover back on re-install all screws. If this does not work , you need to replace the back light board. Good luck!
