When you remove the paper tray, is there a black actuator flag hanging down in the paper path? that tells the machine the tray is in place. You can remove the tray by pulling it out, and lifting up and out on it and lift that actuator up and down . If the message does not clear you have to replace the sensor on the paper feed assembly, That is not an uncommon part to fail.
If you need a part, I would recommend you google "the parts drop" and give them a call for what you need.

When printing I am getting a paper width error

The print job you are printing is wider than the paper, or the pritner is detecting the edge of the paper incorrectly.
You can disable the Paper Width Sensor, but it means that any data which is printed outside the paper area will be lost. You may also print on the platten which may reduce print head life.
I would recomend checking the width of the print job or paper size set on the system.

The paper width sensor can be turned off in the following way

Start with the printer power OFF
Hold down the ONLINE button and power the printer ON

Keep the ONLINE button held down until the display reads TEST MODE then release the ONLINE button
When the display reads ASCII80 ASCII136 press the button under BACK (button 1)
The display should read APW, if it does not keep pressing button 1 until it does
Press the button directly under APW (button 2)
Press button 2 (under the <) to change the setting to read APW=OFF
Press the button under SET (button1)
Press the ONLINE button to exit this test menu, then power the printer OFF and back on again

Once the APW has been set to OFF it is then worth testing the printer to see if this resolves the error.

On my 2265+ I will be printing and I recieve "paper width error" press online to continue

The "paper width error" indicates you are printing out side the area of the paper. ie the document you are trying to print is wider than the physical width of the paper you have in the printer.
The printer displays this error to give you the opportunity to remedy the problem as printing outside the area of the page may be undesirable;

  • Data printed outside the area of the paper will be lost, you will not see this information you printed on the paper.
  • You may shorten the life of the print head by printing on the platen with no paper to protect the print head.
I would recommend the following;
  1. Check the size of paper selected on the computer system, or ensure the data print width is the same or smaller than the actual paper size used in the printer.
  2. If it is not possible to change document size on the system or if the printed outside the paper width are not required or are simply spaces (ie no print) you may wish to turn of the paper width sensor so the edge of the paper is not detected and the error is no seen, the paper width sensor can be disabled in the following way.
  • Power printer OFF
  • Hold down the ONLINE button and power the printer ON, keep the ONLINE button held down whilst the printer powers on and initializes.
  • Release the ONLINE button when you see ASCII80 and ASCII 136 along the top line of the display.
  • Press BUTTON 4 (under NEXT) repeatedly until you see the APW option along the top line of the display.
  • Press the button directly under APW
  • Press BUTTON 2 or 3 to toggle the APW setting to OFF
  • Press the button under SET (button 1)
  • THen power the printer OFF and after a few seconds back on again.
The above actions will disable the Paper Width Sensor and you will no longer see the Paper Width Error, be aware you may be losing data and or shortening the life of the print head.

My pixma ip8500 is printing with some colour missing, all cartridges have ink in them?

Hi there,

When Printing Becomes Faint or Colors are Incorrect.
When printing becomes faint or colors are incorrect even if the ink remains in the ink tanks, the print head nozzles are probably clogged. Print the nozzle check pattern to confirm the condition of the nozzles and then perform the Print Head Cleaning.
Note : Before performing maintenace

*Open the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) and make sure that all lamps for the ink tanks are lit red.
-If any one of the lamps is flashing slowly, the associated ink tank is running low. You can continue printing for a while, but we recommend you to have replacement ink tank available.
-If any one of the lamps is flashing fast, the associated ink tank is emty. Replace the ink tank.
If an ink tank is flashing fast even though ink remains in that ink tank, it is inserted into the wrong position. Make sure that the ink tank of the correct coloris inserted in each position matching the label.
-If the ink lamp is not lit, the tank is not set properly. Press the <PUSH> mark on the ink tank until the tank clicks into place. Make sure that all the packaging material is peeled off the ink tank.

Canon IP 90 clogged printhead nozzles. How to remove printhead?

Hi there,

To avoid drying of the Print Head and clogging of the nozzles, note the following.
*When you turn off the Machine
Follow the procedure below to turn off the machine.
1)Press the ON/OFF button to turn off the machine,
2) Confirm that the POWER lamp has gone out.
This takes a few seconds or as long as 20 seconds.
3) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
If you are using a power outlet strip, you can switch off instead.
When you press the ON/OFF button to turn off the machine, the machine automatically puts a protective cap on the Print Head to prevent the ink from drying. If you remove the power cord or switch off the power outlet strip before the POWER lamp goes out, this capping will not be done properly, causing the Print Head to dry and clog.

* When You are not Using the Machine for a Long Time.
When you are not using the machine for a long time, print or copy in both black and white and in color or pertorm Print Head Cleaning, about once a month to prevent degradation of the Print Head.
Numerous nozzles are installed in the Print Head for high -precision printing. Just as the uncapped tip of a ballpoint pen or marker becomes dry and unusable if it is not used for a long period of time, the print nozzles becomes blocked by dried ink. Periodically printing or cleaning of the Print Head can prevent this blockage.
Note :
*If the printed area is traced with a highlight pen or paint-stick or stained with water or sweat, ink may blur depending in the paper.
*If the print head nozzles get clogged , printouts will become faint or particular colors will not be printed properly.

Paper jam when trying to print envelopes.

You need to make sure that your print sriver setting match the setting on the printer itself.

If setting are changed on the printer itself to envelopes then when you go to print click preferences button on print screen and look for a place to change paper type (usually defaulted to letter size.) Change paper type to envelpoes and click ok. Click ok again on print screen and it should print correctly.

Paper types must be configured the same on the device as well as the print driver installed on the computer.

Hope this helps

The red attention indicator light and the toner indicator light are both flashing together

ON your driver check that the paper size is correct and this most commonly occurs when the incorrect paper size is selected. For example if you are printing to A4 and you have letter size installed in the machine then the system will cause an error or jam when there is nothing there.

Also within word or which ever program you are using on the document goto file and then down to page setup once in there check the paper size make sure it's correct for the paper in your machine also check the paper source. Once you have done this check the paper tray guides are correctly against the paper turn on and try printing and hopefully this will work.

Thanks J
