How much free space do you have on your hard drive? If you have less than 3-4GB, this will cause heavy slowdowns.
Or, your disk structures could be inefficient or have cumulative corruption. I would run a pass of Disk Warrior on your drive to clean that up.
If you collect icons on your desktop like some people collect Hummel figurines, that will slow down your machine atrociously. Get them off your desktop, or at least bury them in a folder on your desktop.
Adding memory will usually give you a speed improvement, but I would not recommend this as your first response because lack of memory would not cause a machine that WAS faster to be slower NOW.

You will need to check for BAd caps on this look under the memory lid and see if the caps are bulging if they are you got a emac that is failing and you would need to send it in for repair you can take your logic board out as i did http://www.photospace.com/rss_feed.php?rss_id=3354 look at my pics look at the caps the round thigs there bulging this means they need to be replaced so I am going to try it myself but you can take it to www.badcaps.net this guy will do it for under the price it would cost for a new logic board.

I want to transplant emac power supply

Hi Paul, OPen an eMac is staighytforward but a little risky becasue onece the case is open you are exposed to the EHT circuity and the nasty capacitors.
Sit the unit on its screen then undo the large silver allan screws on the outisde of the unit and the screws on the base. Lift off the back of the unit carefully and watch that you dont break the cire connecting the on-off switch. It usually has enough slack so that you can disconnect it safely.Once the back is off you can see what you have to do. - it's not easy though as I remember, the way the thing has been put together is not exactly obvious.

I have emac 10.2.8 with memory 640mb processor 700MHz power pc G4 . I would like to know what safari version is right one for my computer and where can i get that. plz help me.

Hi SardaIn order to upgrade your Safari you need to upgrade your OS to 10.4.11 at least.Try ebay for a copy. Once you have done that Software Update will automatically offer to update Safari to the latest version applicable.
It's not the machine - it's the OS that matters.

I bought a eMac from the dep of Education and I am unable to get into it because i don't have the username or password

You should format the internal hard disk and install a clean and fresh version of Mac-OS anyways and create a new user-account. If there is no install-disc included, try calling Apple, tell them your eMac's serial number (All eMac's have their serial numbers printed inside the disc drive door), and ask them if they have any replacement install discs for your model of eMac. Check out the Apple eMac support page or the Apple eMac support forum for more informations.

I have an eMac and would wireless USB adapter to work

It depends on which eMac you have. The 1/1.25 Ghz and the 1.42 ghz models have USB 2.0 so either adapter will work. The slower speed eMacs only had USB 1.1 and will not work for those types of adapters. The 700/800Mhz models will use the original AirPort card while the rest of the eMacs use the Airport Extreme cards.

I have an old school pc it is an emac and need an password for it can you break it

In OS X, if you're the administrative (or only) user, you can reset the admin/user password using the OS X installation disk #1. Put the disk in the CD drive & restart the eMac while holding the "C" key down (Restart is also on the Apple menu, top-left corner of your screen). When the Installer opens, click "Utilities" then Restart. When the Installer asks you what language, pick one (maybe English?) 8¬), click continue (arrow) then Utilities again & choose "Reset Password"; the system will guide you through the steps. Once you've reset the user password, restart the eMac, then you can log in using the new password. You'll probably want to reset your "Keychain" password to match your new login password – otherwise it'll ask for your password every time it needs one for a program. "Keychain Access" is in the 'Utilities' folder, which is inside the 'Applications' folder.

—> Important: if the old Users Home Folder was encrypted ("FileVault" protected), you'll need the old user's password, or the eMac's Master password to access the files in the Home Folder – otherwise, the Home folder's files will be lost. As a new user, you'll have your own Home Folder & access to all application programs.

My eMac doesn't like to restart after being put to sleep or turned off. When the power button is pushed it will beep 3-4 times and the white power light flashes in sets of 3 short lights, and the screen...

I know emacs have had there times and this might be the cause for yours as well. Do this: turn the mac upside down take off the memory cover from the unit using a screwedriver now you will see 2 round capcitors there check to see if there buldging at the top or leaking for the bottom. Now not all caps leak they just buldge. If this is the case you have a couple options here 1. repair it yourself 2. take the logicboard out of the system (a lots of work) and log on to www.badcaps.net this dude will repair it for $75.00 plus shipping Thanks

Network a G4 (OS 9) to a eMac (OS X)

OK - first, crossover cables let you network PCs together without a switch or router. I would strongly recommend returning the crossover cable and buying a router so that you can use both computers on the internet at the same time.

Second, the eMac monitor can not directly be used as a monitor for your G4 - it's not built that way. However, you can use Screen Sharing on OS X (if both have Leopard) or Apple Remote Desktop software (if you buy it) to remote control the G4 using the eMac.

You will DEFINITELY need a monitor on the G4 in order to set it up at all, so I hope you have that.

Keep in mind that you can buy, for less than $200, an LCD screen that is larger and better quality than the eMac, and it would leave the eMac useful as a second computer. Since the eMac is unlikely to work at all with Leopard, and you'd have to buy Apple Remote Desktop, you're going to spend less money by buying a separate screen for the G4.
