Pent air pool filter

When I clean the DE grates in my pool fliter I get DE coming back into the pool. After a day or two it stops and works great. Is this normal? And what is causing this? Am I adding too much DE? Thanks, Glenn

Yes, a certain amount of DE will go back into the pool after a backwashing. But, it is a lot of DE, then you may have a tear in one of the grids that is allowing the DE to return to the pool until there is enough to coat the grids and stop the DE from leaving the filter.

Another item that can cause this issue is to much DE. Pentair recommends that you mix the powdered DE in a 5 gallon bucket with water in it, to the consistancy of whole milk. Then slowly pour the mixture into the SKIMMER closest to the pump, allowing the DE to flow evenly through the filter.

If you just backwashed the filter, you will only need to add back in 80% of the start up DE. The ONLY time you add back in the complete 100% of DE is when you take the filter completely apart, washing the grids and the inside of the tank.

Buddy is this happening, after the pump turns off or during.. Need more info.. type of filter.. Sometimes the sleeves on the neck area of the panel. Where it mates with the manifold slide down, you will have a small opening. Might be from their.. Could be a hole on one of the panels. Do you have a push/pull valve or a multiport valve (to back wash)

Breathing tube clogs within a day or 2 after cleaning. Pool water is clear and clean but psi goes from 10 to 15 in 2 days.

have you done a total clean on the filter? over time DE can build up in the bottom of the filter tank and significantly reduce filter are causing high pressures.
see if you can pull the bottom drain plug and remove the lid of the filter (do this on a shady day or in low light conditions) grids do not like sunlight and will shorten their life. rinse out the filter's base with a garden hose.
OR if the pool is dirty it will take time to clean it you will need to continuously flush the filter until pressures drop

No pressure on gauge on filter pump

The same thing happened to me. So frustrating! I guess the pump that comes with the intex pool is not strong enough to do this. At least that is what I was told. So I just ended up sending that vaccum back and getting a catfish vaccum. Works great!

After cleaning my D.E. pool filter it still does not work properly

What exactly is it doing? Do you have a drop or stop in flow? If so, try one of these solutions. Clean the pump strainer AND skimmer basket. Make sure that the impeller is not jammed or clogged. Cleaning with a stiff wire brush through the pump strainer opening will usually work. The alternate method would be to disassemble and clean. You could have an air leak on suction side of pump. Check cover gasket, hand knobs, hose, clamps, etc. Replace or tighten them as necessary. Finally, it could be that your pool filters electric motor is running less than maximum R.P.M. Most motor problems are due to undersized or improper wiring, power cut backs, or a combo of both.

I get DE back into my pump strainer and I only can filter for 2 to 3 hours before pressure is up to 20 to 25 lbs and I have to use bump handle to start filter again with results

The de coming back into the pump isnt anything serious, there may be a small air leak causing the water in the filter to drain into the pump.

As far as having to bump every couple of hours... is the pool really dirty?

Is your pressure gauge broken? Turn off the pump, does the gauge drop to zero? Alot of times they dont drop to zero, so when you hit 25psi it may really only be 15. Happens alot actually.

If pool is clean and clear and the gauge is fine... have you ever taken apart the filter and cleaned the de fingers? If not, i would take it apart, rinse all of the fingers and then let them soak over night in a filter cleaner solution. This cleans them much better then a plain garden hose spray. After they soak, spray them down again, add new de and you should be good to go....

Appears that the silicone sand is being thrown back into the pool from the return jets? I assume something gave out since the filter is old. What part is needed to replace on the EC65 DE Filter?

Is this a DE filter or a sand filter: Check all internal parts of your DE filter for holes or breaks. There is a hose inside that is suppose to eliminate air locks ... it may be submerged. Same applies to sand ... find the broken lateral or air lock preventing hose.

If you have a DE filter and sand is coming into the pool ... there is definitely a hole returning sand that bathers introduced into the pool ...

You are using DE in your DE filter, right??? not sand ... right???

My DE pool filter stops working after an hour? please help

Is your pool green? This will cause the filter to plug up. When you say stops working do you mean no water flo, passing dirt or are we talking about the pump not moving water? Can you clarify this problem some?spellcheck.gif

Hayward pump wont prime. air bubbles coming back into pol with water and de

You have a leak, if DE is getting back in pool your filter is either dirty and needs to be taken apart and throughly cleaned, or you have a ripe in one of the DE cells. The pump not priming is a leak somewhere before where water enters pump. Could be a bad o-ring in a valve. Hard to tell what is is without troubleshooting, piece by piece. I would start with cleaning Filter first.

Will not pump when it has a filter in it

filters are too good for pump system.

These pool pumps seam to over heat fast, no quick fix.

* Try getting more air flow around pump.
* Only use pump when using pool or near by.
* Use a pool cover - will help stop dirt/rubbish getting into pool - less to filter.
