Did you recently change the fuel filter? When I changed the fuel filter that used to happen to me. What worked for me was loosening the gas cap and it would continue to run, over time the fuel filter soaked in the fuel more and the mower ran fine, give it a shot. Good luck

2007 riding mower John Deere backfires while trying to start will not start

Inspect/replace the air filter to ensure proper air flow.
Inspect/replace the sparkplug(s) to ensure proper firing.
Check the position of the "choke" (if equipped; & by the way, most riding lawn mowers do not use a primer bulb button to prime the engine before starting).

John deere riding lawn mover doesn start, said, code 7.6

Gas is bad these days. If it's turning over but not starting, Pull the plugs and replace, they are cheap. Drain the gas out and add high test with no ethanol. Add a couple drops of a fuel jet cleaner. Turn it over a couple times. Don't panic if it does not start leave it sit overnight, then start. Check the gas filter and air filter as well. Nothing here expensive. Unlikely anything else wrong unless someone was paying with the carburetor or choke.

I have a scotts/john deere s2046 riding mower (man date 12/98) --hydrostatic trans making a groaning noise--want to fix it before it fails--is there a rebuild kit of some kind?

I would try and fill the case with 50 weight oil It might be low. The hose should come to the right side of the pully door on the middle of the tractor between your legs.

JD L120 riding mower keeps dying on me

Loosen fuel cap 1 turn to see if it will stay running.Theres a tank breather hole/vent in the cap and when it becomes plugged no air can get into fuel tank when fuel is used, can also be a plugged fuel filter.

Hard to start will run with the choke on dies with choke off

It is the carburator first before you have to take it about squirt some carburator cleaner .take pull the air filter open choke spray cleaner start hold choke in keep spraying in that order sometimes that all it takes to free up some dirt in the gallies and could save you alot of money ,also seafaom is great to put tank as it will clean it internaly couple of cap fulls is all you need good luck
