I might advise you to download the driver of the modem and reinstall it to the computer, then create a new connection for dial up connection.

Internet speed slowed down after install of win 8.1

The type of Internet connection you use in windows 8 is the most important factor in determining your connection speed. The three most common ways to connect to the Internet from home are dial-up, DSL, and cable. If you have a choice, cable is usually the fastest, but both DSL and cable are faster than dial-up.Check with your phone company or Internet provider for more information. Then if you check your speed from http://www.scanmyspeed.com you will definitely see the difference

Will a westell modem work on a computer that had dial up.

What do you mean that pc has dial up? Did you mean that you have a dial up connection to the internet? If that is the case, using a westell modem is not necessary because dial up connection just uses a phone cable directly plug in at the back of your pc where you will see a port for phone cable. If you have a dsl connection and your pc is currently configured for fial up set-up, then you can use the westell modem but need to check first if westell modem s compatible with your internet service provider.

Made unsuccessful attempts to connect to the Internet using the dial-up modem. The internal modem came installed on my original PC and is a Smart Link 56k Modem. What do I do?

Can we have more information about the problem you have when attempting to connect ? The error code and message would me very useful in your case.

For example :
1. If it says the modem is already in use, go to "Network connections" or "Network and sharing center" and delete all existing dial-up connections, then create a new one based on the settings your internet provider gave you.

2. It might be a problem with the login and password. Write both in Notepad on the computer, then copy and paste the information in the required fields in the connection window.

3. It might also be a problem on the telephone line. Try another computer with dial-up modem known to work properly. If the problem repeats on that computer, the problem is on the telephone line. You will need to contact your provider to fix the problem.

One possible cause could be that your modem has lost it's connection to your internet service provider. To test this you can check to see if you have internet access. If your modem has a connection to the internet than you should connect a phone directly to the tel 1 port of your modem. If you have dial tone wile directly connected than there is an issue with the internal wiring of your home. In this case your best bet is to contact your ISP to have them fix the issue. If there is no internet access to the modem than this is typically do to a signal related problem. To trouble shoot the problem you will need to connect the modem directly to the main cable line where it first enters into the home. This process is known as bypassing the splitters. You will know when the modem establishes a connection by the top 4 lights becoming solid green. If bypassing your splitters resolved the issue than you will need to replace the malfunctioning splitter. Typically splitters only cost a few bucks and can be purchased from any electronic store. If at any point all 4 top green lights start to blink in sequence than you will need to contact your internet service provider to "unwall the modem". If you can not get a connection from the main line than there is a issue with either the modem or the signal coming into the home and you will need to contact your internet service provider.

I hope that information above has helped is some way.
If possible please rate this solution.

Modem

Assuming that Windows has recognized the modem, and has loaded the correct device-drivers, Windows can use the modem.

You'll need to find an Internet Service Provider that provides "dial-up" service.

You'll need to have a land-line telephone (not a cell-phone) with your local telephone-company.

Connect a 4-wire cable (not an 8-wire Ethernet cable) from the "line" port on the modem to the telephone wall-jack.

Then, follow the instructions given you by your Internet Service Provider to configure your modem to connect to their dial-up server. Or, telphone them, and their Technical Support staff will guide you through the necessary configuration steps.

you need to re-enter the username and password for the broadband connection. Log in to the router and go through the connection wizard, but you MUST have the name and password that you were given by the provider.

Unable to connect to internet

well !! according to me you've got a programming problem in your modem due to electricity fluctuation so , to solve this check if u hv a user manual of your modem ... if u have then its really good...

u will find a re-programming isp code ...

now to solve this first switch your modem on then go to any browser and type in the isp code there which is somewhat like " 192.168.1.1 " etc.

type that in the address bar and click enter ..
find the reboot option in the menu and click it..
your modem will reboot and then your internet will start working again !!

now just connect to internet via your default connection ....
your problem is solved....
