Not the handles but the door latch itself has broken and fell inside the doors. Front driver and passenger doors

there is a metal bar inside that clips into the handle they come off all the time there is a plastic clip that hold the 2 together it most likely has fallen off and into the bottom of the door you can put it back together easily if clip cannot be found you can buy them at local parts store for a couple bucks..hope this helps

The latch is sold seperately. Call your local dealer with the last 9 of you vin number to get the right color. Most dealers sell at the same MSRP price as all the others in town. I know cause I sell these all the time at my Chrysler dealership.
SOURCE: Jeep TJ Wrangler Outer door handle removal
The handle is held in place by two vertical wedges on both sides of the handle. To remove just force the wedges up with a hammer and screwdriver (be careful of the glass). Putting them back in is very difficult. I would suggest making the bends or adjustments with it installed so you'll know exactly how much you need. I hope this helps.
SOURCE: rear passenger door will not open
I bought my Cherokee new and until 06 I never had a problem with the doors. When 1 latch went all the others went shortly thereafter. You WILL HAVE to replace the latches. I've done all 4 doors and the rear latch. You can do it relatively easy but the latch NEEDS to be replaced. You may get it to work every now and then, but it will FAIL again, just replace it and you'll be happy.

Latch assembly is removable. Likely has "star" bolts holding it to the door. Inner panel needs to be removed to get it out after it's unbolted. Most inexpensive manuals like chilton or haynes have decent instructions for procedure. (not difficult but too long to re-write here.)
