Seems you have 2 problems.
1. Bad thermal fuse located on the heat canister on the top left side.
2. Bad heating element. shorted out.
Remove the back panel to access these parts.
Remeber to unplug the dryer.

A bad timer motor not advancing to the off position.

The no heat is the repair I already stated.

I misread your post to say the heat would not cut off. When you meant the dryer would not cut off.

Dryer overheating on timed dry/no heat settings

Replace the thermostat. A very inexpensive thermocouple that is not sensing the heat anymore and caused the element to overheat. In the UK the part will cost less than five pounds!
If the element had touched the ground, your safety earth leakage breaker in the fuse box would have tripped.

If my Samsung dryer belt was loose but still turning, will it stop the heat element? Because I had a problem earlier in the week with it heating. I took the back off and noticed the belt was freyed

Yes if the air flow is reduced because of a slipping belt that could cause the heating element to turn off due the temperature sensor being a high input. Remember the motor runs a fan as well as the dryer drum.

Heating works but drum doesnt turn.

Try turning drum, or remove top from dryer to confirm if belt has gone. When turning drum there should be some resistance as the belt fits around the drum

Dryer won't spin, but heats up - belt is okay

the motor may have seized up, or the drum bearings are shot.

sounds like the heating element has gone south
if you open up the dryer you can check continuity across the element but make sure power is unplugged

Maytag dryer not heating up thus not drying clothes

This is usually a simple heating coil malfunction. The coil may have breaks in it causing it not to work. It could also have something to do with 1 of several heating sensors that may be broken, telling the dryer's heating coil that the dryer is too hot, in effect turning off the heating coil. If your dryer has a round lint filter in the rear of the drum, it was 1 of 2 models of Dependable care dryers produced in the 1970's. If this is the case, i supose it would be up to you whether you want to try and get it repaired or not. If you have one of the more recent models,,, the lint filter is directly behind the door, at the front of the drum. and in this case it would probably be a good idea to get it looked at it as Maytag is a relatively dependable brand.
