If it's detected in Bios then it's either a Laser pick up issue, i.e. no longer able to read content of a disc OR the Disc itself isn't bootable. It just depends what exactly happens with a message or not happen when looking for boot files on disc.

Hi,

This is an snippet from the Gateway Website.

"In order to access the boot options on this portable computer, press the ESC or F10 key while the Gateway screen is displayed during the startup process. This opens a Boot menu with the option to start the computer to any of the available drives or to enter the BIOS Setup Utility. Use the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys to select a menu option, and then press the ENTER key to start to the selected device. To "boot" (start) to a CD, DVD, or a floppy disk, the media must be in the drive when starting the computer."

Windows won't start up? Well, try this Download Tenorshare Data Recovery from its offical site and install it. Burn it into CD/DVD, or USB flash, put into the computer you need to repair, Bios setting. It can make sure your important data will not lose. Best of luck

Why won't my gateway 700 s boot from cd

You need to open your from its BIOS page. The way you can do this is to restart it and once it starts up press the delete button repeatly until your BIOS page comes up.. From here you have to change what your comptuer boots from. Change it to boot from CD DVD rom first then the harddrive. once you have this done save and quit the bios and pop in your cd.

to go to bios setting either u can hit F2 or F1 key. then u change the boot priority. set it to cd-rom device.
after that u can boot from any bootable cd.

for your operating system problem, boot from the xp bootable cd after setting boot priority, and then repair or reinstall your operating system. some files might have been corrupted.

I have a gateway gt4016, it is not loading. it's asking for a recovery cd... so I put in the operating disc (windows xp) it's not reading it and I can't enter safe mode.

first go into the bios f2
set the boot record to boot from cd first
also on new computers it will say hit f 11 12
for boot order selection, but this has to be done fast before it tries to pick up on hard drive
if the cd player works ok
you should see "press any key to boot from cd" first, is the start of erasing your hard drive

Hi,

Try to Repair your windows from original CD. Boot from CD and follow instructions for Repairing your Windows. Most probably this error will remove after this repairing process.

Gateway MX6927 Windows Xp won't boot

put your xp disk in the optical drive.Turn off computer. Turn computer back on as soon as you turn it on start tapping f 12 constantly.it should go the boot menu giving you a choice of booting from cd or hard drive choose boot from cd.Be sure you choose repair rather than new installation or you could loose all your information stored on the hard drive,I personally would try safe mode first you can get to safe mode by tapping f 6 when you first turn on your computer.

Fails to boot

You might try a Hirens Boot CD, un-zip the files, create a bootable cd from the .ISO file and boot your troubled system, select virus scan on boot.
