Problem - AMD 1ghz on Abit kt7a raid random shutdown

By Ross - usenet poster

" "
I recently built 1ghz AMD 200 mhz fsb on Abit kt7a raid. 256 megs pc133 ram.
The operating system is Windows ME. The system is not stable. The start
button flickers slightly sometimes as well as the dial-up icon in the tray.
The machine randomly shuts downit just blacks out. The peripherals are
30 g WD ATA100 drive, Sound Blaster, ATI all in wonder video card. Linksys
network card, Pheobe micro v90 modem. Does anyone have an ideas what i might
try to correct the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The system sh*t the bed altogether. I contacted the company i purchased the
equipment from and they are swapping
out the board and cputhe problem got progressively worse to the point
that i couldn't even bring up the biosbad mainboard or cpu??? I think
the CPU or Mainboard took a dive. It wasn't overclocked and it had the
correct fan and heatsink. The system temperature was normal (on the cool
side) according to the bios when i checked it a couple of times. The Power
supply is 300w.

Installing the VIA AGP driver in Normal mode gives you 1X, Turbo gives you
2X. 4X must be enabled in the bios.

Correction, force the use of AGPx2. Do not use AGPx4. This is accomplished
by installing the VIA 4in1's n Normal mode.

From the KT7 FAQ - #
Forcing the use of AGPx1 mode by installing the VIA 4in1 AGP driver in
Normal, rather than Turbo, mode allows this card to work correctly. This
problem seems to occur on all KT133 chipset machines, not just the ABIT KT7
series. Note that despite the impressive sound of AGPx2 or AGPx4, these
modes offer little or no speed improvements over AGPx1 mode and hence little
performance is sacrificed in order to achieve
stability.

As a side note, you will suffer in your dealings with your KT7 if you have
not read this FAQ front to rear.
