Question about Xerox CopyCentre C20 Black and White Copier

I have a Xerox XC1020 copier and the drum light is on...

I replaced it with a refurbished drum and the light stays on. Issue with the drum? I did not change to toner at the same time - should I also try that? Any tricks to try before I spend a ton on this issue?

    Thank you for the reply and suggestion. I took off the green cover and I saw 4 gears but am unable to recognize a "flag". Could you be a bit more decriptive in aiding me to find that flag? Again, thank you so much for the guidance.

    I see no tab on the old one or on the new drum. I have taken the gears off and looked all around and I see no remnant or evidence of a "flag" or tab. The part number of this drum is XC-810 D

    Still, I am unable to find a tab from the new drum or the older drum. Refurbishing company that sold me the drum said to enter some codes to engage the drum counter to zero, but I can't find anything with that either. Beginning to think I am blind. :-(

No, What happens is on that drum unit , under the green front cover there is a series of gears with a small flag on it. That flag makes one rotation when the drum is installed and actuates the new drum switch. What has happened is that flag has dropped while in the box and never reset the switch. You can pop that green cover off and reset that flag to the up/right position, approx the 2 o clock position,, Or you can exchange the cartridge. That is very very common on that cartridge for it to drop in shipping.

    it is just a little tab sticking out of one of the shafts unless it is broken off. Maybe 1/4 inch wide and about a half inch,or less long.

Some other sites list the supplies but these list them as In Stock today.

There are 3 lights on the xerox 1020 first one


you replaced the drum too soon, replace old drum until red light flashes then install new drum.

Streaks on copies on Xerox XC1020 which is 12 years old.


My Brother has been whining about a drum for over a year now, and still printing just fine. As long as it prints good, I say ignore it. If it stops completely, see if you can reset the drum counter to get it going again. These companies just want to get us to toss our machines as soon as possible. Google drum reset for your machine if you have to.

I have a Xerox xc1020. it will not work. when i turn it on it moans, and than will try and warm up for a long time. can you help me


Wait a minute. I just answered this question to your name for an M20.. On an XC1020, that is different. If that is moaning I strongly suspect the toner cartridge if it just sits there and chugs without faulting out. Could be the drum . If it were the motor on that machien it would fault out. Now it depends on the model.
If it is an XC1020, I very strongly suspect the toner cartridge.
Again, let me know,we will start at the toner and drum on that one.

Xerox XC1020 White Bands running across copied page 4" apart


The metering blades in those cartridges go bad and do not allow the ink to get to the page. Look at the front of the toner cartridge, is should be a solid consistent black all the way across, if its streaky, not consistent all the way across replace the toner.
The other problem could be a dirty laser. If replacing the toner doesnt work let me know, I will tell you how to remove and clean the laser.

2) the transfer unit--- the unit under the drum, with thin wires,

With "H4" flashing press:
1.Clear button
2.Auto button then again

3.Clear button
4.Auto button

It should be done quickly. If it's done quickly enough all lights on display should go off.

5.Enter number 14 (as if you are making 14 copies).
6. Press START/COPY button.

The machine goes back to normal. If not, thermistor on the fuser (heater) should be replaced.

is it a printer/copier?
yes....do both prints and copies off the glass come out black?
yes...probably a problem in the drum/ CRU area
No- prints OK but copies black lift the lid and watch the exposure lamp...does it light up? does it move? Both of these scenarios would usually bring up a fault code, so I would still be inclined towards the drum unit.Pull the unit out and make sure no paper has sneaked up between the drum and the exposure slot, or even into the drum unit. another cause could be a broken corotron wire (very thin wire close to the drum usually behind a grid (charge grid) If it is a customer replacement drum unit (CRU) the charge grid will be built into the unit and will require the whole thing replacing.......
