I have a kenmore washer machine model no. 110.22642100. It fills with water, and then instead of going into agitate cycle it makes a loud humming/buzzing sound and does not work, when put into spin cycle the water drains, however it makes the same loud noise. Any ideas of what the problem could be?

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:
It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.
It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.
if you are saying that the washer finishes the load of clothes and timer goes to off and water is filling the tub after this then you have a bad water valve on the back of the washer.disconnect the water lines and change out the valve
No, this is probably a direct drive that has a faulty plastic coupling from motor to transmission. Go to: http://www.fixya.com/support/r385252-replacing_motor_coupling_W... by jsrock516 Please give him a pat on the back for the help.
Check out this you tube. Had the same problem today. Tipped washer on its side and replaced coupler between motor and gearbox. Parts are about $15
This is a good diagnosis video.
