Samsung HLN5065W doesn't turn on after new tv lamp

I got a new tv lamp after the old tv lamp burned out. After I installed the new tv lamp, the tv came on for about a minute then it went off by itself. I turned it on again...the green light would flash a couple times then it goes off. I tried this many times and the tv doesn't stay on. Only green flashing lights then goes off.

the problem may be due to dry soldering in the power supply stage if it was with the lamp there would be red or green light showing the presence of the power to the tv after making it own some of the components get hot and it will make the the soldering point conectionless and after some time the heat sink get cooled and the soldering point gets connected and u will see the picture again it is a simple problem if u have a soldering iron u make it hot and re solder all the components in the first part of the circuit board and the problem if rectified

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Heat is the number one enemy of electronics, and these sets operate hot. This problem is caused by the power supply being overloaded. This is often caused by failed convergence ICs. I don’t think the issue is with the power supply of the unit as the sound is coming fine from the unit. Also please check that the lamp is fine. This model of TV has over 3,000 parts which include millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits. Over time the capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. This will cause other components to become defective. This can has a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again since if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced. The typical cost to get this fixed by a pro is about $300 - and it doesn't mean that he/they will do a job better than you do. The parts are less than $100 (about $20-$30 for the IC's) if you want to do it yourself. Replacing only the IC's MAY solve the problem; however, many people have also had blown resistors requiring replacement. Why would you ask should you replace both of the IC's if only one is shot?! If one is shot the other one is not far away and for that little price of the chips it worth changing them both at the same time. Also the convergence board should be checked for cracked solder. If you replace the ICs and the resistors are shot, the ICs may blow again almost immediately, meaning you may have to do the repair twice.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

When your TV turns off without any reason, there are a number of possible causes. The problem could be a loose connection, a sleep timer that's been activated accidentally, or even a buildup of dust on the circuit board that causes overheating.

To help you better determine what the problem and solution might be, follow the simple troubleshooting steps in the article TV turns off. I hope this helps!

Sounds like the old lamp blew and took out the ballast. I believe that you need a new ballast for your unit. The other possiblity would be a problem in the low voltage power supply but if the indicator lights are blinking the most likely problem is the ballast.

I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4977572-when_change_ballast_in_dlp_tv which explains the problem, how to repair it and where to get the parts. If you need more help let me know.

Thanks for using FixYa and the generous rating.

Samsung HLN5065W Lamp won't stay on.

Do you get any flashing lights?  Such as Lamp or Temp?  A common problem with these is the light not coming on.  Sounds like a temperature issue.  When you turn the TV on when it is cool, pull it forward and check the rear on the left to see if you can see the fan turning where the lamp is.
The light system is pretty straight forward:  Power Board -> Ballast -> Lamp.  It is controlled by the DLP Board, though.  Since it is powering up, it sounds like the Power Board and Ballast are okay.  The ballast is used to kick start the lamp on (similar to flourescent lights) but not during normal operation.
