Did that and still wouldn't detect the cd/drive.  Could only get into the bios with another 3-1/2 startup disk from his other laptop.  Even asked him to type other drives that the cd could be in and it would say doesn't exist.

Before trying to use any of Dell-net's suggestions, we've got to get you into the bios.

It looks generally like this:

have a friend that can't boot his computer to wind - b09adb8.jpg

You should see a message displayed when you start the computer that says press "Del or F2 or F10" to enter setup.

Once we get here, we can proceed.

Not all motherboards will automatically detect an external usb drive, so don't worry about that.

Can you try pressing F8 during the boot up, then selecting Safe Mode with Command Prompt

After it's done loading in the dos terminal type:

    chkdsk /r

    press enter

A message will probably come up saying the disk is locked...

just press the "Y" key, enter

    then ctrl-alt-delete

choose the tab that says Shutdown

    Restart the computer

    Let the disk check run

Hopefully this will get us somewhere.

    Let me know what happens.

Hello.
1. try to boot in safe mode. press F8 key after bios screen flashes.
2. in beginning of start press DEL button or F10 or F2 to go in bios mode look for boot and change the boot order, so the first boot device is your CD

Seems like the laptops cd drive is broken(its a common problem with laptops.) do you have access to a usb cd drive? then you should be able to restore your computer or run repair mode. one other thing is to download a BART cd and burn it then try to run chkdsk /R in the commando prompt.
the bart and instructions is here. but then you need a cd drive that works. other way is to put the harddisk in a other PC and run checkdisk. but then you need a adapter like this.
Think it should be easier to leave it to a professional computer store.

    Not a usb external harddrive.
A usb external CD drive. but it possible that your computer is so old that it doesent support usb devices in bios.

Help! My Laptop Acer Aspire One stuck at window logo loading Anyone please, help my acer aspire one stuck at window xp logo loading. I try everthing in F8 button, it didn't work, even in safe mod

oh a fun one. Reset your bios to defaults. if that doesn't work then try a windows disk boot up. if that doesn't work you're screwed.

if you want any of your files from the computer first pull out the hdd buy a cord and transfer them to another computer.

I can't install windows xp in samsung n110

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Have you tried resetting the BIOS defaults? In doing so, it will force IDE re-detection and often resolve vague boot issues.

I have installed Windows 7 to my Acer Aspire One AOD255 but i want to revert it back to Windows XP and I no longer have the Windows.old folder. How can i downgrade it back?

If it originally came with Windows XP and it has the recovery partition still untouched (assuming the disk hadn't been formated to only one partition), you might recover the system from the hidden recovery partition.

To initiate this process, switch on the laptop and press F10 when the ACER logo appears (some computers need you to press ALT and F10 together, instead of the F10 only. If the Acer Recovery Management starts, you just have to follow the instructions to recover your system.

If nothing happens after pressing F10 or ALT and F10, you will need to get a Windows XP installation CD and a external CD drive to reinstall the whole system.

In this case, first you have to enter setup by pressing F2 at boot time, as soon as the ACER logo appears in the screen. Then, you will need to switch the SATA Mode to IDE from AHCI.

Select: Main -> SATA Mode -> IDE

This is done to allow Window XP to see your SATA.as an IDE disk and install the system.

When you get the external USB CD/DVD driver to use with a Windows XP installer CD, connect it to you laptop, switch it on and press F2 again to enter Setup.

This time, scroll over to the BOOT menu and press Enter. Scroll down to the last option USB CD- Rom and then use the F5 key to move it to the top of the boot list order. Then press Escape and then F10 and finally Enter. The computer will restart and load the CD and you can start the installation of Windows XP.

Hope this info may help you!

My Compaq Presario wil not go past the windows xp screen and load up the programs?

Hit the F10 button on boot up you will get a choice there to boot last known good configuration.

This should work .. Something has altered your boot files
If this doesn not work ,Insert CD that came to you with Pc /laptop RESTORE CD.. this will add enough boot files to fix your issue

Then reboot with out the CD it will boot properly

if you do not have original CD borrow a cd from friend or someone boot from Operating system CD tis will restore your boot files
