If you don't even get the red led light then it's likely the main power supply took a dive.

If it's still under warranty by all means get it repaired by Sony.

Otherwise, you'll have to open the PS3 to determine which power supply you have.

Then just match it up with one on ebay and swap it, should bring your machine back to life.

Let me know if you have any other questions or problems.

Hi, this is a power board failure. the power supply will need to be replaced. there are many sites that have repair parts that you can purchase for do it yourself but, i recommend authentic Sony parts.

System turns on but screen stays black

looks like MW2 has done it this time for a lot of our systems. I just posted by extact same problem on here, don't know why.
I don't understand why would the power supply just die, if it is the power supply that is. Same with my ps3 the screen stays black but powers on. Try reinstalling your hard disc, just take it out give it a little fresh air and put it back in, it has solved it for a lot of people.

Wont start messages comes up saying correct hard disk not found

your hard drive may be dying. or the file system may be corrupted.

before you get a new hard drive there are some tricks to try.

#1 remove the HDD and boot it up without it in, then turn off and put the HDD back in and boot again.

#2 rebuild the file system in the recovery menu

#3 rebuild the database in the recovery menu

To get to the recovery menu you need to press and hold the power button when the ps3 is in standby mode untill you hear a double beep then release. sometimes the ps3 will go back to standby mode before it does the double beep if it does just release the button and press and hold again real fast and wait for double beep.

here is what mine does

ps3 standby(red light) press hold power...........beep...............beep.........standby again, release hold............beep..................double beep ..release power button.

from the recovery consol you can rebuild the file system and database sometimes when they are corrupted it has same symptoms as a dying HDD.

P.S. rebuilding the file system and database will not lose any of your ps3 data, other options will though like the restore ps3 and format HDD.
if the above tricks dont work try updating the firmware, if your at the current firmware you can re-install it from the recovery menu as well using a usb memory stick or a cd with the firmware on it.

if all that doesnt help it looks like its time to get a new HDD, but at least you can upgrade it to a bigger ps3 now. any sata laptop HDD should work. i think a 160gb HDD is only $50ish.

I have an 80gb backwards compatible ps3, which recently died on me. In the middle of a blu-ray movie the screen went all distorted and the system froze on me. The only way I could get the power to go off...

Listen to the PS3... if you hear a fan running, your good. The fan is usually quite loud. It does look like your system is overheating. It is one of the older models, therefore Sony didn't learn from its mistakes much before they made it.

My PS3's hard disk file system is corrupted

There is an alternate way to restore your HDD. Turn off your system and when u see the red light, hold the power button in front until you hear a total of 4 beeps (1 alone, 1 alone, 2 together). It usually works on second try. it should show a screen and say hook up controller with a usb cord. Then it should show i think 6 options. Choose the restore option. it should work.

Hope it works and wish you all the best!
P.S.- I just got the 80010514 error on my ps3 and my ps3 games dont work anymore :(

Ps3 problems again

Have you tried pulling out the hard drive and then turn it on to see what it does? If it says the same thing the hard drive may have died if not put the drive in making sure its firmly seated and power back up, make sure the power is off before you do anything. Was the system dropped at all?

PS3 starts but wont turn on

you could have a problem with your power cord which is causing your ps3 to short before the system can power on fully. try using a different power cord or check the ports of both the outlet and the ps3 to make sure there is nothing blocking anything. also, try using a different outlet.

The time in my sega dremcast stops when the power to the system is switched off. so the next time i switch it on, the time starts from the time i turned it off last. why does the time not continue to count...

It sounds like your bios battery is dead. There is a small watch type battery that is inside of all the systems. This battery powers a low voltage chip that hold constantly changing information, like the time and date. When this battery dies or is almost dead, this function of the system will no longer work or will act odd till the battery is totally dead.
So, in short, have this battery replaced. I hope this helps.
