Question about Bosch & Tankless LP Hot Water Heater

Bosch Eco 5 Igniter keeps clicking

The igniter keeps clicking, there is no demand and burners don't go on. When hot water tap is turned on, it operates correctly, but then when water is turned off it starts up again. I changed the batteries, thinking that might be the problem but no help. It just keeps clicking away as if it is trying to ignite.

Thank you earwel, I am sure you are right, in the meantime, after I tapped all the connections, the unit has stopped clicking so I will ignore it until it starts again

Fix problem immediately same day, yourself, for $385, by replacing whole thing:
Bosch posts some service manuals: or contact Bosch. Lack of error code indicates failed PC board? or bad single-handle faucet cartridge?
Check for crossover where bad faucet cartridge allows cold water to enter hot pipe, so hot water is not drawn through tankless and burner does not activate... but this might not be problem since you hear the tankless clicking
Call local service technician to catch up on required yearly maintenance.

We have a 10 year old Rheem PVW50 Power Vented water heater that works on gas. The last couple of days it has been giving out problems. It will not maintain hot water in the tank. I restarted it and...

The igniter is glowing, but no gas ignites?
So either the gas is entering combustion chamber and not lighting because igniter is positioned incorrectly -or- no gas is entering combustion chamber because air in gas line or bad gas control valve thermostat or gas line is clogged.
When you 'restart' the water heater, somehow you are getting gas to the burner and it is igniting.
I'm not sure what the flame switch is. If the ECO was cut out, the gas control valve would not send power to the igniter and there would be no gas available for 'restart.'
I would adjust location of igniter, check if gas is entering combustion chamber, clean the gas line to the burner, and bleed gas line for air, but another suspect could be the gas control valve thermostat.
Identifying numbers are usually on side of gas valve.

There is likely an onboard relay stuck in the open position.

This is a gas appliance and should be serviced by an authorized BOSCH repair center to avoid potential catastrophe.

Demand light not on when hot water tap is turned on, so ignition light is not operating.

What has happened is your starter that senses the pressure, and that sensor when activated, , then ignites the igniter, and the heater works. What happens is this sensor/Valve, goes faulty, and it will not work.It must be replaced. Sometimes too, it is the actual igniter itself, you will have to troubleshoot to see which part it is, it maybe easier to just replace both. have a look on the 'net, for a service manual for your system, it will give you a diagram and all servicing data etc. really you cannot repair anything without one. If in doubt at all though. You should contact a professional, and ask for a 'Quote" for the repair.

Electronic water heater burner often won't light tho pilot's on

it sounds like you pilot lite is to far away from the burner, make sure that the burner is sitting in it;s purch, look thru the site glass it can be moved by hitting or bumping into the out side of the gas tubes on the outside of water heater, if not, the burner assembly may have soot on it. you might also want to make sure the filters are not clogged on the shut offs that will give it less pressure then it needs to make the unit come on,, write me ,

Bosch AQ 125XNG water heater burner frequently won't light

May be That we have something we can try. first, what doesn't work most of the time? Blowing with all you mite or jumping out of the way before your hair gets singed?
I think it sounds like you might have a maladjusted ignitor. Mispositioned. Its not in the gas path. Sometimes this happens as the tungsten ignitor wears down. That can be adjusted by repositioning the ignitor so it is in the pat of the gas. Just don't test as you go. Set the ignitor so the arc is about 1/4 inch long and about 1/4 inch away from where the gass comes out. Keep clear of the access hole. The longer it takes to ignite, the more gas build up there is. Have your exhaust vent checked. restriction keeps it from drafting and drawing enought air to balance the air gas mixed to ignitable.

Be careful and be safe
