Which wire is positive on a Schumacher ship n shore battery speed charger

Get someone who works with electrics regularly to test the output on the cables with a voltmeter or a multimeter set to volts. They will be able to tell you which is which. Don't use the charger until you've found out which is which as this could do serious damage to the vehicle or the charger.

I have a Schumacher 6/2 amp dual charger, SE-82-6. I took off the clamps. Now don't know which wire is positive. One has a white line on it.

Get a volt meter and hook up the test probes to the cable ends and turn the meter on, the meter will say 12 or -12 if it says 12 then you have the red and black from the meter connected to the red and black on the charger in the right manner, if it says -12 then you have them reversed. Take the cable clamps and put them back on.

Both Battery clips have come off of Schumacher SE-5212A Charger. Need wiring diagram to make sure I replace them correctly to the battery cable wires.

use a voltmeter. turn on unit to a low setting, place volt meter leads on broken wires one on each. if the voltage goes positive on meter. the positive clamp goes on the wire that the positive(red) voltmeter lead is on and the same for the negative.
Good luck

I have a Model SS-51A-PE charger that will not charge an auto battery. Is this normal or is the charger mat functioning ? Don Robinson

If a battery is defective, it will not accept a charge and it is not the fault of the charger. When connected and switched on, with the clamps making solid contact, the amp meter should give you a reading, depending on the state of the battery. To do a quick test on the charger, try it across a headlamp bulb, The bulb should light and the amp meter should read about 5 amps.

I have a Schumacker Model SS-51A-PE charger and was charging a boat battery when I heard a medium-to-loud pop. I checked the charger and realized there was no output. It hums quite loudly when plugged in...

Quite simply - the unit has suffered component failure - most likely more than one. Capacitors are the usual source of noisy 'bang' or 'pop' sounds, followed by diodes and bridge rectifiers. If you have some knowledge of electronics, you can attempt repair, but, if none, I suggest leaving possible repairs to someone who does.
The humming sound you hear is the transformer under stress, and, if left connected, it too will die.

Schumacker battery charger problem?

You are charging. The meter corresponds to the level of charge in the battery. Try setting to 10 A for 4 hours, battery should be half-way up. To determine if battery id dead.. leave battery off charger once it is fully charged...test with a voltmeter after 10 min.....battery should still be above 12v...after1 hour it should still be above 12v...if not battery is spent.
