Is it listed under mycomputer? can you see any yellow mark for your dvd drive under device manager? (go to control panel, click system, hardware, device manager, click plus sign before optical drive) check if the drive will explore hwats on your disk on SAFE MODE, if it doesnt, replac dvd drive,if its does, delete upper and lower filter by following this steps : click start, click run, type regedit, the registry editor will come up, follow tihis path :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} --- on the right side you will see upper or lower filter, delete both of which one can found on screen. restart the computer. you might also want to update firmware of your dvd drive.

Put the "System Restore" disk into the drive,
and restart your computer.
Choose to "change boot order" so that the first boot-device is your CD/DVD unit.
Your computer *WILL* boot from the disk in the drive,
allowing you to reinstall Windows.

It's time to spend $40 to buy a replacement CD/DVD-writer.
There's no way to "fix" your "half-gassed" DVD-drive.
A technician would charge at least $25 to _look_ at your computer.
Instead, "invest" the $25 in a replacement.

DVD Drive not reconized,"HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50N"

Dear Sir,

It is not problem with your hardware,it is problem with your operating system. This happens due to invalid registry entry on the system files, you may clean the registry by using glary utiliy or any other free registry cleaning software,it may solve your problem. If it is not you have to reinstall windows operating system by formatting your system drive.
if you find any difficulty post a feedback,we will glad to assist you.
I think it helps
Have a nice day !

good luck

criddi, it is best if you uninstall and reinstall or update the drivers of your CD/DVD drive, you may also need to place the drive on another IDE port from the inside of your computer.

hope this helps, if you have other questions please let me know
