Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

2 Answers

I purchased a Model ET8CHMXKQ0 4 Whirlpool Top-Mount refrigerator (Serial # EP4335187)from Lowe's in Champaign,Illinois on November 11, 2003. I have been bothered for a long time with a relative high but intermittent hum on my radios when tuned to a local radio station which has a frequency of 1400 megahertz. I finally got around to trying to determine the source of this hum recently. After flipping circuit breakers and unpluging appliances and electronic equipment, I discovered that the hum is coming from the refrigerator. Since it is unlawful for any appliance to cause radio frequency interference, I must assume that this problem has been brought to your attention previously and that a "fix" for it has been provided to your customers. I would appreciate learning how to eliminate this interference.

Generally a hum is caused by a refrigerant line touching part of the cabinet or base pan.
To eliminate interference try different power outlets and also change the location .

Looking for water filter

The model number is probably ET8WTKXVB00 . If this is the correct model, it does not have a water filtration system. The manual is available from http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals/6142/WHIRLPOOL-Top-Mount-Refrigerator-L0604713?brand_name_search=ET8WTKXVB00 . Sears Parts Direct and other appliance parts stores have the parts diagrams and most replacement parts for the ET8WTKXVB00. No filter is listed and no add-on water filtration systems are available for the refrigerator.

I hope this helps. You could put a whole house filter before the water line gets to the refrigerator if you have a problem with the taste of the ice.

Go to your local appliance repair shop, not the big stores. They should be able to steer you to the right icemaker. Most of these (not all) are generic. They should be able to help you for about $100.

I have a Kenmore Model 795 refrigerator with an ice maker in the bottom drawer. We purchased the refrigerator in August of 2008 (currently November of 2010) and finally hooked up the ice maker last week. ...

The 795 model you make reference to only tells me that this is and LG bottom mount Refrigerator. There are several numbers missing from the model number. This is and example of a good part number: 79577253602 The filter for bottom mount LG units is usually in the upper RH side of the fresh food compartment. See this link: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/partsdirect/showSubComp.pd?imageUrl=http%3a%2f%2fc.searspartsdirect.com%2flis_png%2fPLDM%2fK0810366-00001.png (item 611E)

The weak chlorine taste should fade unless the source is from your house water supply. Let the ice catch bin fill completely once and then dump everything in it. After that your ice should be normal. I think you may be noticing the taste you get from unused plastic tubing / water carrying parts. Just so you know if anyone used bleach to clean the freezer compartment the ice maker will catch any bleach water drips and pass that immediately into the ice. (Have very long customer warranty story with repeated in home visits about how I learned about people using bleach to clean freezer compartments!)
I digressed... just dump the ice collection bin after it is full one time and then check the ice taste on any ice after that. If you think maybe the taste is originating from the freezer compartment get a box of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda, cut off the top of the box and leave it in your refrigerator freezer for 6 weeks then toss it in the trash.

Another note no manufacturer will tell you is if you install a cheap in line water filter before the refrigerator water connection you can make the EXPENSIVE ONE on inside of the fresh food compartment last a very very long time.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

If your fan motor is blowing then I would say you have a defrost problem. How about a good old apartment top mount ice box manual from whirlypool?

Water leaking from top mount freezer

Hi, This is very common for this brand. UNPLUG the refrigerator. You need to remove the bottom and rear panel in the freezer. You should see an ice build up. remove the ice with a hair dryer preferred. Then with warm/hot water, remove the ice built up in the drain hole located below the evaporator coils. You will need to put on an after market drain heat transfer strip kit to keep tjis from reaccuring. I can get the part# for you if this what you find wrong. Please let me knwo if I can assist you fyrther.

Thanks
Vic

Sounds like the defrost heater may be staying on. The problem could be the heater itself or the defrost timer you need a complete model number from the refrigerator to get the parts sometimes Maytag products require serial number to order parts as well. Good Luck..
